This is the perfect place to master your being by understanding who you are outside of the hustle and noise of your usual environment. If it’s your first fasting experience, or if you are a seasoned guru, you will have success in this place, with my subtle guidance. This will be a campsite somewhere in or near the San Luis Valley. I choose spots that I know well, because I lived there myself. In addition, I worked as a driver and a ranch hand for an Amish huntsman. So I've logged a thousand hours just driving and hiking all through the mountains around the valley. They always have a signal. They don't have a major problem with bears, mountain lions, or snakes -although be aware, especially where it's posted. These scenic spots are close to emergency services -yet they still feel remote and secluded -because they are! You should have a secluded spot. You'll have access to hike the entire area, and spots are usually on the edges of the valley, so there are mountains to climb nearby. This year, my guidance will be remote, and therefore even more subtle! I camped out here alone, and needed an ambulance, and because I had just arrived in Colorado, I had no idea how to lead them to me. Dumb! I learned the hard way, so I will teach you from my mistake: Leave a trip plan with your location -check in 2x daily, take a buddy, or both. Local officials are aware that I host guests out here, and I've witnessed them come to the rescue quickly when needed. No hunting of fishing without proper licenses and tags. But with them, you'll have access to some of the best hunting and fishing you can imagine! I'm not an outfitter. But, I know some of the best in Colorado, and have been on many hunting and fishing trips. I know an excellent taxidermist as well. Remember, these remote spots are near very rural, very small towns. So in the spirit of Airbnb's shared economy, please utilize local businesses. Usually I can’t get enough of hanging around with my guests or hosts! Airbnb has introduced me to some really cool, interesting people. However, for this place, and for the purposes of meditating and fasting or studying, in silence and solitude, I will leave you alone. I've had a problem with my working memory for as long as I can remember. My 2nd grade teacher dubbed me "The Absent-minded Professor." Six times in my life (that I know of) I paid for gas and then drove off without pumping it. So my guests would help me with that problem of mine a lot if we can keep our interactions in text. But if you can't, that's ok. I'll take notes when we talk on the phone. These places are close to...Nothing! However, this is what makes it the shocking change of environment we need to snap us into that "mystical psychosis" Psychologist Arthur Deikman studied. A fast isn't always about food. It's more about a shock or an upsey to your normal routine. It makes you see old habits in new ways. Then, improve them or eliminate them. Crestone is a very interesting place. There are many spiritual centers there. A Podcast, "Up and Vanished" (Season 2) did a story about the disappearance of a woman, Krystal Reisinger, who was from that cool, "hippie," town. This true-crime mystery still has not been solved. I could advise a journalist if you wanted to report on this story. This dateline rocks! Fort Garland is where the fishing is. This spot is not as secluded as the other two. It has toilets. There are some ATVs around...Along with a huge, old, Raven that immitates the sound of a small engine. And lots of humming birds too! Mount Shavano is beautiful! Look for the Angel in the mountain. I saw it! There needs to be some snow up there to see it. There is no access to water here, and no toilets. It's serious,a primitive camping. Lots of Piñon trees. Piñon pine nuts are a delicacy! You can responsibly harvest a little Yuka, and weave a basket, Native American style. Mount Greenie is a great place to camp. The roads into it are good. It's very close to the spot where the annual crane migration happens. Walsenburg is the tiny house capital of America! I'm planning to build some here to host guests in the future. If you wanted to do the same thing I wouldn't be mad at ya. I'd advise you and cheer you on. I'll even arrange a meeting for you with the building inspector. He's a very progressive guy. Walsenburg, like many small towns, want to increase it's population. Telecommuting (especially post-COVID) is going to make that happen. Please visit the restaurants in town (before and after your fast). Each location has some good ones close. These are very small businesses that would really appreciate your patronage. These will be your choices, let me know which one (s) interest you. I will most likely be hosting you remotely, but I am planning to host on site for a month during the summer. With or without me there in person, you'll have an amazing exoerience! I'm hoping to recruit a co-host among my guests for this listing. So let me know if you would consider doing this, even if for just a two-week time period. Getting around should be on foot. The moon, even in its quarter phase, lights up the place making midnight walks under the Milky Way a phenomenal experience. The road in is a little rough, but doable with a two wheel drive car. Hiking is safe in these spots. But be sure to check in before and after if you are going for a long one. I'm the last person who should say "beware of strangers." But there are some people in this area of the country who traffic human beings. There were even some locals murdered last year, soon after I took the listing down for the winter. The seclusion comes at the price of being far out of the eye of any security cameras. Although, the spots I picked for you are close to emergency services. You will see some other people, though few. Be friendly, but I wouldn't accept or offer any invitations to "hang out." Don't give details about your camp, even if it seems like "small talk." Just explain that you are fasting and meditating -so it's easy to politely excuse yourself from the conversation to get back to solitude.
