A Green Mtn getaway: charm, views & 4-season fun
A Family Delight! Cozy Green Mtn getaway with charm & views, 20-30 min to skiing
This enchanting home offers a base for all the active delights the Green Mountains have to offer -- skiing, hiking, biking, fly-fishing, kayaking, tubing, swimming and more. And for those who just need a break, it's a house you're delighted to stay home in. This is a well-renovated, caringly decorated, and well-appointed home with stunning and peaceful spot for walks, dining al fresco, hammock time, or just taking in the view. We will consider pets. A delightful getaway for couples, but large (>1800 sq ft) and kid-friendly enough for 2 families -- the home has been renovated and outfitted with both in mind. We have worked to retain the wonderful character of this 1810 farmhouse -- the first home built in the "Hollows" -- while making some key updates for comfort and convenience. A vibrant, comfortable living room hosts a piano, abundant books, games, puzzles, bluetooth speaker, and a turn table. Dust off your vinyl bring it North! The dining room table seats 8, with an additional table for overflow. The kitchen is newly updated and very well-equipped. One large bathroom downstairs and 2 smaller ones on the second floor. A delightful screen porch for morning coffee and afternoon naps opens onto a newly installed pea stone patio, embanked by perennial plantings. In the barn, a gameroom offers a pool table, ping-pong, foosball, darts, giant jenga and more during the milder months. The 3 acre property hosts a year-round stream (with little native trout), a small pond, abundant wildlife and nesting birds, paths that meander through wildflower meadows teeming with butterflies, and dazzling sunsets over the Green Mountains. With Killington 35 minutes to the South, Sugarbush 25 minutes to the North, and Middlebury Snowbowl 20 minutes West, this is a prime location for downhill skiiers. And for cross-country skiiers and snowshoers, there is a beautiful loop trail just 1/2 mile away, and many trails in the area, including groomed trails in the Green Mountains, a short drive from the house. The area is popular with cyclists of all stripes. A long-time road- and mountain-biking destination, it is also gaining a reputation for its "gravel" (dirt-road) biking. The nearby White River offers tubing adventures and pristine swimming holes. And hiking abounds, right from the door and from trails in the Green Mountain National Forest, just 10 minutes down the road. Just down the road is charming Rochester village with its excellent food and cultural activities. And just down the road are key attractions like Warren Falls and the Long Trail, and towns to explore like Waitsfield and Middlebury. Available for your use are: * River tubes and electric pump for 6 people (). * Assorted yard games, including croquet, cornhole/bean bag toss, and volleyball. * Assorted cross-country skis. * Bicycles suitable for ages 5-7 and 8-10, as well as assorted adult bikes (but this changes so check before booking if this is a priority).
