We bought and completely renovated this guest house in 2012. We fell in love with the location and hope you enjoy it as much as we do! The property is amazing! To reach the house, you drive one mile through the woods via the former Hucklebush Rail Line that operated between the 1870's and 1940's-- bringing crops from surrounding farms to market. The guest house is perched on a hill in the woods above a creek that flows below one of the only remaining rail trestles. It's history and it's picturesque! The creek joins one of the best trout rivers in the Hudson Valley-- the Roeliff Jansen Kill (Roe Jan)-- at the northwest corner of the property. You can relax by the Roe Jan, go trout fishing, or take a dip in summer. ...Or enjoy being in the house. We’ve done it up with designer furniture and great details. All the basics are provided (linens, towels, etc) and the kitchen is well-equipped. Relax in the hot tub or seating area behind the house while listening to the creek below. Enjoy dinner or a bottle of wine outside in spring, summer, and fall. Or... enjoy the great restaurants, antiquing, and outdoor activities in the area. For the restless-- there is a full size air hockey table in the two car garage on the other side of the property. The house is designed to be open with large windows overlooking the woods. Feel like you are outside while being in the comfort of a newly renovated and tastefully decorated home. For an additional fee, a second couple can stay in the detached 200 square foot studio 100 feet from the house. This studio has heat and electric, but no bathroom or running water. Occupants share with those sleeping in the main guest house -- not for the small bladdered! *Evidence of the divisions within our society are more prevalent in the Hudson Valley than at our Brooklyn home and the homes of many of our guests. Some of the more egregious examples include the occasional confederate flag, a sign at a local sports bar banning sagging pants, and a store with an Obama three dollar bill with our ex-President in a turban. We are appalled by such blatant racism, as are many of our guests. We want to assure our guests of two things: (1) we welcome all people in our home and believe that diversity is one of our country's great strengths and (2) that while some of our neighbors' opinions and political views may differ from ours, respect for private property and freedom of expression has been universal. We've had no problems and the house is a safe space. We encourage feedback regarding how we can make your stay inclusive and welcoming.
