NOVEMBER 2021 UPDATE This is a summary of a recent visit and conversations with Casuarina Point neighbors regarding current conditions in the wake of the pandemic and the 2019 hurricane. The airport (MHH) is open and flights continue to be added. Bahamas Air, Jet Blue and Spirit have regularly scheduled flights. Smaller, charter flights, such as Aztec, can also be scheduled. The Bahamian government modifies travel regulations as needed in reaction to coronavirus spread. While regularly updated, the web sites may not have the most recent information. Checking with airline or charter companies is advisable. You'll want to be educated on the new and evolving travel requirements. Keeping a flexible mindset will also help. Piles of debris are mostly gone and buildings are being repaired along with new construction. Businesses continue to open. Maxwell's, the large grocery store, has been open since shortly after the storm. Once at the house, the small grocery in the town of Cherokee is a ten minute boat ride across the Sound. Big Bird Farm, about 7 miles up the road, has opened a small, yet well stocked, grocery and liquor store. There’ s even a food truck open 6 days/ week in the Casuarina Point neighborhood. Propane, gas, food, liquor and basic household goods are easily available. The neighborhood of Casuarina Point sustained little hurricane damage and our house no damage at all. The beach and view are as peaceful and inviting as ever. Our neighbor describes the beach as "usually footprint free." And the fishing is still great! Interest in renting is steadily picking up. The 8 mile white sand beach of Casuarina Point is only a 7-10 minute walk down two sandy streets, about the equivalent of two city blocks. You can reach the beach even faster by kayak or boat! RENT OUR CLASSIC BOSTON WHALER! Two double kayaks are provided for your enjoyment. Adventure even further, or experience the amazing bonefishing, by renting our classic, 1960s 13ft Boston Whaler. The optional boat rental is only $500 for the entire length of your stay. Schools of bone fish are often seen in the canal and occasionally can be caught right off your private dock, just steps from the house! FISHING GUIDES PICK YOU UP AT YOUR PRIVATE DOCK! Arranging a deep sea, bonefish or snorkeling charter? A guide can pick you up from your private dock - with mahi, tuna, wahoo, sailfish and other deep sea fishing less than 10 minutes away. The large windows and vaulted cypress paneled ceiling allows for beautiful views and radiant light throughout the day in the great room and master bedroom. An eclectic mix of artwork is found throughout the house. The great room encompasses the open kitchen, dining and seating areas. The kitchen is fully stocked and has a large granite island with seating for two. The adjacent dining table seats six. A comfy Tommy Bahama couch and two club chairs face a flat screen television. The patio/ deck combination overlooks the private dock along a canal bordered by mangroves. Under the covered patio, you'll find a dining table with seating for four along with a Ducane grill. Beyond the patio is an open deck; the perfect spot for relaxing with your favorite tropical drink while enjoying the late day sun bouncing off the waters. A separate, private deck is also found off the master bedroom. Fine furnishings include a queen size bed, bureau and flat screen television. There is WI-FI access at the house. Bathroom with uniquely tiled shower and walk in closet complete the master suite. Two additional bedrooms have west facing views over wetlands. Queen size bed, bureau and closet in one. Double futon, closet and flat screen television with DVD player in the other. A second full bathroom with uniquely tiled tub/ shower combo is near the bedrooms. Hotel quality towels and linens provided. The enclosed washer and dryer are adjacent to this second bedroom.
