A PERFECT place to stay while craving relaxing summer days, viewing the Fall Foliage, or visiting the area for winter skiing. A diamond in the rough. Peaceful farmland setting. Simple old fashioned kitchen. Spacious & comfortable home with kitchen, living room, dining room, full bathroom and one cozy twin-bed bedroom downstairs; upstairs has 2 full-sized bed bedrooms, sofa bed on the landing plus half-bathroom. Sleeps 7 comfortably in 4 rooms/spaces. Internet. Smart TV with Netflix and Amazon: Prime, BritBox, Acorn, CBS&Masterpiece. Phone for local calls only. 2 bathrooms. One shower/tub. Simple and charming. Quiet and peaceful. In nature yet 4 miles from Hillsdale; and equidistant from Hudson and Gt Barrington, MA: approx 12-14miles for each. Catamount Ski Resort a short 6 miles away. Butternut Ski Resort in nearby Ma. Also, near Tanglewood, Lenox, Stockbridge and all things Berkshire, including Rail/Trail for biking starting at Taconic State Park off Rt22/344 in Copake Falls, Bish Bash Falls, many nearby hiking trails. Gym & pool located at the back left side of the Taconic Hills School, a brief walk or simple drive to the next road East. A lovely ideal place for a simple quiet getaway, or to enjoy local activities. Entire home plus lovely patio available for guests except locked rooms and closets of the owner. Wonderful music room available for guests with artist size grand piano for additional charge. Wood burning stove available in winter if guests agree to "stove rules". And patio Fire Pit is available for summer evening relaxing. FirePit instructions, poker and grill are near the rakes in the mudroom. Wood and kindling are outside and also in the mudroom. I respond very quickly on the Airbnb app. Diamond in the Rough is equidistant from Hudson, NY (@12mi) and Gt Barrington, MA (@14mi). Nearby town of Hillsdale (@4mi) hosts IGA for groceries and ATM and a few restaurants. For more amenities the ride to Gt Barrington is worthwhile for Guidos Market, BigY, many wonderful restaurants. Hudson has a LOWEs, Walmart & Warren Street for antique shopping/browsing. In summer, find Tangelwood in nearby Lenox, MA for amazing BSO concerts, etc and interesting cultural events at the Mahaiwe Theater in GtB In fall, orchards abound for apple/pumpkin picking. Taconic State Park Rt22/344 boasts Bash Bish Falls, hiking, swimming. In winter, there is nearby Catamount (6mi) for skiing, plus close-by Butternut Mt. & Jimmeny Peak. For fun shopping try the Outlets in Lee, MA just outside of Stockbridge. Chatham, NY has much charm, wonderful restaurants, and hosts the county fair in late summer. Brochures are in a welcome basket in the kitchen to give you ideas for hiking and activities in the area. Car is best since local trains are not so near: •Amtrak to Hudson; @$25 taxi to the house, approx 10-15m •MetroNorth to Wassaic Station. This is a much longer ride to the house, approx 30-35m. Other: •Bike trails on Route 22 going south to Millerton on the Rail to Trail. •Swimming pool and gym at the Taconic Hills School. (Entrance to fitness areas is at the back of first building if driving/walking -short walk- from RT23) There is a very nominal fee to use the facilities. The local tap water has been tested and deemed safe for drinking, but we also provide bottled water if you prefer. It is located throughout the kitchen and in cabinets under the microwave. Because the local water has a high mineral content there are “rust” -looking stains in tub and occasionally in toilets. Not to worry: all clean. All just fine for use. Note: in kitchen please use only one high voltage appliance at a time, i.e. microwave, toaster oven, Krups water boiler. If not, electric will go out & circuit breaker will need to be thrown down in the basement. It’s an old house. Care needs to be taken in this regard. Thank you.
