Private Suite next to Wheaton College

Welcome to our beautiful, old home! Your cozy, private suite has a double bed, desk and chair, mini fridge, Keurig coffeemaker, and a closet with shelves. Adjacent to the bedroom is your private bathroom and library/sitting room. You will be steps from Wheaton College, a 5 minute walk to quaint, downtown Wheaton, and 10 min walk to both College Ave train station and Wheaton train station. Your space includes a spacious and bright library/music room, bedroom, and full bathroom. The private entrance is keyless and directly off the driveway. There are about 6 steps up to the front porch where the entrance is. An automatic door code will be provided to you after booking. The door locks automatically when you close it - there is no need to type in the code again to lock it. Please remove your shoes before entering into the library. There is a shoe mat just inside the door. You will walk through the library to enter your bedroom. The wifi password and door code are writing down inside the desk drawer for your reference. Important to note is that right now, a baby gate and curtain separate your space from our kitchen until we get a door built. Also two sets of beautiful old sliding doors separate the library from our living room and dining room. Please respect our family space and do not go beyond the sliding doors, keeping them shut at all times. Also important to note for those with any allergies is that we have one dog (golden retriever) and two kitties that are not allowed in the guest space when in use, but do wander in and out when we don’t have guests and all the doors and curtains are opened for family use. Feel free to peruse the books in the library, make use of the writing desk, play the piano, and talk to my plant babies :) I have an affinity for all things nature-related, so this room reflects that. There is a watercolor journal with watercolors in the desk drawer if you’re feeling creative. It’s a beautiful space and I hope you enjoy it! The bedroom has a comfortable queen bed, natural light from one window that looks to the east, a desk with a lamp, desk chair, a small fridge, a single cup Keurig coffee maker, hospitality basket with snacks, a closet with shelves, and a clothes rack with hangers. The adjacent, private bathroom has a tiled shower with spa-like shower head, towel rack, medicine cabinet, and a small cabinet for your personal items. There is a small lamp in the bathroom that you may leave on all the time if you’d like. The overhead light and fan are loud, so some guests prefer the small light instead. Important to note, the bathroom is not "en suite", but it is adjacent to the bedroom. The window in the bedroom is very old and only opens about 8 inches, but you are free to open it for fresh air. There is a small fan kept in the closet that you may use. The blackout curtains may be loosely tied up in a knot to let in daylight. You are welcome to use the outdoor fire pit on the patio or any of the porch seating on our large, wrap around porch. This is our favorite place to enjoy our morning coffee and evening tea! Firewood for the fire pit is $3 per bundle. You may also use our gas grill on the deck, but please give me a heads up on this! You may make very light use of the kitchen, but ask that you don't plan to cook meals. You may store a few things in the fridge or reheat something in the microwave if you'd like. Just let us know how we can help and we'll show you around the kitchen! The family laundry room is available for use free of charge, but please let me know ahead of time when you’ll need to use it. We have an energy efficient front loading washer and gas dryer. Please ask for instructions before use, and I’ll be happy to assist. Our home is steps from Wheaton College, a 5-minute walk to downtown Wheaton where you can dine and shop, and a 10-minute walk to both the College Ave train station and the Wheaton train station (50 and 55 minutes to Chicago by train). The neighborhood is beautifully maintained with many of the houses built before 1900. You will love the gardens as you meander the neighborhood! We have high speed internet/wifi, and our home is smoke-free. Because your private room and bathroom are located on the first floor and because our family lives here full-time, we cannot guarantee a completely quiet space. The basement and 2nd level are for our family's private use. You may make light use of the kitchen, laundry room, front porch, gazebo, and outdoor fire pit, patio table, and grill. Of course, we will try to answer any questions you have about our neighborhood and the area. Feel free to contact us anytime during your stay! Interaction with the host is as much or as little as you'd like, but we will be around in case you need us. Our neighborhood is absolutely wonderful for walks around town and through the beautiful Wheaton College campus. Northside park is a 10-minute walk from the house, and the Illinois Prairie Path is just a few blocks away - terrific for running or biking. We are three blocks from the Wheaton Public Library and Addams Park. Be sure to browse the famous French Market on Saturday mornings (April-November) and order a Lavender Vanilla Latte from My Half of the Sky!
