Hutch House - historic home in quiet setting

The home is a peaceful retreat, yet less than 30 minutes from downtown Indy. With a unique blend of new and old, enjoy privacy in this 200 year old log home, newly renovated and with modern amenities. Walk our 9 secluded acres of woodland and rolling meadows, fish from the 1/2 acre stocked pond, or sit back to enjoy the silence and view waterfowl from the balcony. Inside the house, feel free to enjoy games and a large collection of books, prepare meals in the well equipped kitchen, and take advantage of some simple food items made available to you. The main level opens onto a living area connecting to the dining alcove and a wide view of the pond. The kitchen, half bathroom, and pantry are also on this level. The upstairs has two private bedrooms and one full bath. The lower level is a walkout basement with two couches, one of which is a sleeper sofa, plus laundry facilities and a half-bath. This space can be your game area or serve as a private bedroom. The home has two balconies - one small one off of an upstairs bedroom and one which is a large wrap-around with access from the dining area. Help yourself to some fresh garden produce when in season. There is even a small pioneer cemetery, dating back to the 1830's, which is adjacent to the property and which you are welcome to visit. Entire home and property are accessible to guests. The home is entirely yours for the duration, but we will be available if you need us for any reason. Emergency maintenance people are on call, and cleaning service is available for long term stays. The area is made up of farmland yet there are many things close by for visitors. You might want to eat at a local diner, attend a play at the Buck Creek Playhouse (in season), enjoy tastings at Buck Creek Winery, and walk or bicycle inside the 188 acres of Southeastway Park. All of these are within 5 minutes driving time. A few other attractions with estimated travel times include: Kroger Super Store - 8 minutes Indiana Grand Racing and Casino - 16 minutes Marc Adams School of woodworking - 15 minutes Dining and Shopping at Greenwood mall - 21 minutes UIndy (Univ. of Indianapolis) - 23 minutes Indianapolis Motor Speedway - 35 minutes And don't forget downtown Indianapolis and all that it offers - 26 minutes from Hutch House The owner had located this original log home in southern Indiana and learned that it was built in 1817 but soon to be destroyed, as it had become a safety hazard because of vandal activity. To salvage and preserve this important bit of history the home was taken apart log by log and transported in the fall of 1972 to its present location . After two years of construction it became livable in the fall of 1974. You will find a picture album in the home showing how the home was disassembled, transported and rebuilt at the present location. Although the house has retained the original footprint, the interior has been updated two times since the reconstruction; the latest was completed early this year of 2019. After 45 years of living here, we have decided to open the home for more people to experience just a bit of history in this modern environment.
