In 1917, the new town of South Charleston was booming. Songbird Hill was the first house built in Panorama Park , a post-World War I development of comfortable houses for workers in the Kanawha Valley’s growing chemical complexes. Today the neighborhood is warm, friendly. Residents walk their dogs and children play. It's ideal for walking or jogging. Joplin Park is one mile away, a two-minute drive. The park features basketball, tennis and pickleball courts and walking paths. Picnic shelters have grills and are first come first serve. Big box shopping and dining are 10 minutes away, while quaint antique shops and independently operated Mediterranean, Vietnamese, Italian, Chinese restaurants are within a three- minute drive. City and state parks are within a few minutes' drive, and the famed New River Gorge is an hour away. University of Charleston, WV State University, Marshall Graduate School, Southern West Virginia Regional Technical Park, High Tech Center are all minutes away as well. Note: Downtown Charleston is almost as close as downtown South Charleston, since Songbird Hill is less than a mile from I64's Montrose Exit. Songbird Hill is near everything, and easily accessible via car or public transportation. If you need assistance with arranging public transportation or mapping out day trips, just let us know. Our house is said to have a special feeling about it, a warm, welcoming vibe. Maybe it’s the love of our parents that guests feel! Our mother, Genevieve, was West Virginia Mother of the Year in 2003. She was a resilient, talented woman full of grace and love. Jim was everyone’s favorite guy! He could fix anything, was often the life of every party—and could he dance! These high school sweethearts were married for 70 years, raised six kids, and loved this house. Listen for the songbirds that often serenade in early morning hours. Enjoy the serenity.
