The "Nest", unconventionally modern yet vintage.
The "Nest" has an open floor plan with a gourmet kitchen and modern appliances, with a comfortable lounge area to make you feel right at home. The dining table can be expanded for conferences or several dinner guests. The quiet, beautifully modern bedroom is large enough to accommodate a king-sized bed and a desk area. The 12 foot kitchen island was restored from the primary counter used in the 1924 dry goods store that was housed on the main floor. The kitchen backsplash is made from parts of the store’s tin ceiling. I personally created the floorboards from the old ceiling beams that ran throughout the building. For an added touch of whimsy, the decorative copper pipes used in the staircase handrail are all recycled plumbing parts. More copper was uncovered under several layers of roofing materials to create the sliding barn door to the bedroom. The sand softened stone flooring outlining the soaking tub were all found on our own Lake Michigan shore, just a stone’s throw away. Guests have complete privacy if desired. The entire apartment yours enjoy throughout your stay. The main entrance has street access but there is also access through back for your convenience. There is an urban garden path that leads to the back the building. You'll have the entire apartment to yourself with key code access. Beth lives onsite and can be available if desired. If she is traveling you can contact our in town liaison for questions or concerns. Whiting Indiana, the "Little City on the Lake", is located within the Chicago Metropolitan Area.
