Idyllic Orchard Cottage-Pool, Outdoor Fire, Golf
Go back to visit great-grandma’s house in this 1929 cottage. All the charm of the country with a tree-line driveway, yet only 5 mins of the Freeway! The 2 bed/2 bath with full kitchen is on private grounds which include a small orchard, huge pool, gazebo with fireplace, and a 4-hole putting green. Inviting small group of friends encouraged! (see details). Close to walking, hiking, biking, golfing, and water/snow ski destinations of Spokane or Coeur d'Alene. The Cottage at the Orchard is made for visiting! I do encourage you to invite friends BUT a few items to remember: The Orchard readily allows up to 4 additional visitors on any given day during your stay. My family/cohosts are the only people who share the space with you, we may also have friends join us during your stay. We will let guests know if this is occurring & ask the same courtesy from our guests. Permissions for more guests and/or small private events must be arranged separately, some may have additional cost. IM host via AirBnB for information. (current AirBnB restrictions and WA guidelines apply) More Cottage Details: Each room has its own entrance! Walk out any door to a beautiful patio with umbrella & comfortable chairs. Great for some independence without disturbing your housemates. Early risers will enjoy the sunrise in the orchard. Stay up for late-night summer swim or to check the winter starscape. Rock Room details: What was once an exterior wall of the original structure is now a showpiece of 1920's & 30's practiced use of local materials. A period tea-cart is available with folding leaves to allow writing or having morning cup while watching the morning sun cast shadows through the cherry & apple trees. Accessibility - This is the only room where doors are ADA width and minimal transitions between bath/bed, living room, kitchen. The bathroom is ADA friendly (wide spaces, open under sink, grab-bars are pending, arrangements can be made for shower bench) and a wheelchair ramp to the outside door can be arranged. Please ask for details, will be adding, I will do my best to provide clear answers. Fireplace Room details: Single-step down into the original Living area to a comfortable (med/soft) king-size bed. The windows open to a tiny, private grove with Pine Trees, wild Honeysuckle & Oregon Grape providing shaded light for afternoon naps. The fireplace is filled with LED candles for evening snuggles. Extra tall ceiling in shower. Apartment size stackable washer/dryer. Living room details: Comfortable couch & chair with Roku enabled Smart TV. Open space with Kitchen/Dining areas so your group can share meals & watch games together. The large desk is available for those who still have to work. Business speed internet wifi/ethernet is part of your stay with good bandwidth across most of the property. An extra monitor and keyboard for remote office work is available upon request. Take your laptop to set up with a pool, a putting green, orchard, or an outdoor fireplace as your background; imagine letting meeting attendees know the background you have is not just a stock photo! Kitchen details: This small but well set-up kitchen makes it easy to cook & visit & watch out the front to see what's going on in the orchard. Gas stovetop, full-size oven, microwave, and dishwasher. The table has a self-storing leaf to expand from 4 to 6 person. Refrigerator has filtered water/ice dispenser, although Spokane Valley water is very good straight from the tap. There is so much space on-site to walk or find a private place to sit. The Orchard It really is an orchard! and "Yes, you are welcome to pick whatever is in season." 20+ apple trees (4 types) which are believed to be part of the original apple groves of the 1920's & 1930's. These bloom around mid-May and have visible fruit by beginning of July, then ripen after the first good frost in mid-Sept or early October. There are 2 large cherry trees which bloom end of April/early May with cherry crop generally ripe the last week of June & first week of July. Pool, Fireplace, Gazebo enclosure: The fenced 20' x 40' heated pool sits beside the large gazebo & outdoor fireplace. Pool is generally open just after Mother's day thru end of September. Fireplace & gazebo are usable all months of the year except during burning bans (pollution levels in the winter occas get high). The Pool Rules: Generally 8am thru Midnight. Residential Noise restrictions are in place 10pm-8am but we have found low-level music & chatter is generally okay through Midnight without issues. I am very friendly with neighbors and simply ask respect for this quiet neighborhood. Standard child-safe fence & gates are in place with additional safety cover over the pool itself. Pool release/agreement is signed by the renter and they are held responsible for actions of any in their party and any visitors. Putting Green: This 20' x 40' foot is on the west side of the property. Shaded by two giant pine trees and a huge Ginko tree with exotic fan shaped leaves, it is bookend by a group of pine trees (great for chipping practice) and tall Cedar trees shading the Big House deck. Cigar & whiskey over golf have been known to happen here. Right & left handed putters are available, and one child sized! General Grounds: Kids love to play in the old dog-house made to match the house (slivers are a risk!). This is the best place for night-time hide and seek (such a rare memory for kids anymore!) The big house has a large, smooth driveway fantastic for learning to ride a bike or for sidewalk chalk. The deck in the front yard is great for your mini-talent show. Everything is dressed up in old fashioned lights for homey winter holidays. Halloween is reserved for the neighborhood trick-or-treat rounds. You will love anytime of the year here and go home refreshed! Best contact is via AirBnB messaging. Once Reservation is confirmed, my cell is available for emergencies. I am generally on-site most of the time as I work from home. One co-host (Deanna) also lives on-site in a garage apartment. One co-host (Regina) lives nearby, often assists me with troubleshooting & is contracted for cleaning. NOTE: My parents & My nephew live in the Big House with me next door. You may see any of us & we occasionally all have visitors at the same time. We assure our personal visitors are aware when guests are present & sharing the property with us. I am still considered new to AirBnB hosting, (started mid-year 2020) your patience & feedback will be much appreciated as we learn how best to support our Guests! The best part? It's just SO quiet for being right in the middle of busy suburbs! Only 20mins from the Spokane [GEG] Airport. Easily walkable streets even with some moderately busy traffic times in the morning & evening "rush hours". [Most people also laugh at what Spokane considers "Heavy Traffic"] We have many walkers each morning & evening. Centennial and Appleway Trails are bike & walk-friendly, both stretching a number of miles. Appleway is walkable distance to get to and this section of Valleyway is considered part of the Bike Path. Numerous fitness centers within a few blocks. The Valley Mall is 5-8 minutes away on a slow day. Fabulous old fashioned breakfast places are nearby. Spokane River has plenty of drop-ins/outs for river rafting (but look up safe times of year!) Mt Spokane, Silver Mtn, and Schweitzer are all within 30-90mins. Coffee?Spokane knows COFFEE. Ladder is one of the closest with truly unique coffee & toast offerings. Thomas Hammer coffee shops & Wake-Up Call are two other Spokane brands and numerous other roasters can be recommended. There is a great loose leaf tea place, an oil & vinegar shop, lots of delivery available thru multiple vendors. Generally, private car is recommend and there is plenty of free parking on-site for multiple vehicles. Multiple gas stations are available within .5 miles. More electric charging stations are beginning to show up but you will need to plan travel ahead for that. We do have public bus/transport but low frequency to the stops. Uber & Lyft readily available along with fairly robust taxi services & car rentals. Bike rentals companies are available in downtown Spokane. There are two cats that live in the Big House but have run of the property (Check out the private cat door balcony!) They will likely come in the cottage if you invite them but are kept out otherwise for those with allergies. Deanna also has a well behaved but still in training dog that is always attended, on leash, in outdoor kennel. German Shepherd/Golden mix dog: Wrigley Calico cat (often visits guests if on patio in evening): Etta James Fluffy with Siamese coloring cat (only rare visitor sightings): Monkey
