Stationary Houseboat: The Oolikhanna
Come Glamp with us on our tiny 1972 Nautline houseboat located on the beautiful Allegheny River. We are in Verona, PA, a little river town about 10.7 miles upriver from Downtown Pittsburgh. Enjoy a complementary kayak, paddle board or canoe rental to enjoy the river. Create your own river adventure to Sycamore Island, or Plum Creek to explore or just take it easy and hang out on the houseboat and enjoy a dip in the Allegheny to cool off. Enjoy the sunset on the top deck. This boat may not be suitable for people who are tall. I’ve had a guest with a tall husband, he complained of low ceilings. IMPORTANT: This boat is down a flight of 12 plus stairs down to the dock. It is not a good fit if you have trouble going up and down stairs. The dock rocks back and forth from the wake of other boats. If you have trouble with balance this would not be a good fit. There are no railings on the dock. If you get sea sick this would not be a good fit. The boat does rock back n forth with wake when boats pass. Sometimes this can be little bit and sometimes this can be a lot. The Nautaline named Oolikhanna is situated on the Allegheny River. The name Allegheny comes from a local tribe called Lenape. The word, welhik hane or Oolikhanna, which means "best flowing river of the hills" or "beautiful stream". It is not unusual to spy a blue heron, bald eagles or even a beaver or a turtle among other river inhabitants. We have enjoyed walking along sandy beaches of the Allegheny collecting treasures of the river both natural and man made. Note: Please pack Lightly, like you are camping. Large luggage is not a good fit when carrying down the stairs and rolling it on the dock. Please do not bring items of great value. Things do fall in the water! If you bring a computer or a phone be extra cautious with them because accidents can happen. Noise & Marina Activity This an active Marina. There is a train across the river that is on the loud side. It varies on time that it comes by. We have rowing teams that are often out on the river early in the am. They may be loud do to the mega phone that they use. Please be ADVISED there are 17 stairs down to boat! And it is advised to pack lately it is a small boat with many stairs down to it.
