Get in a Mountain State of Mind & reconnect with nature at this eco-friendly, contemporary retreat with built in bike/hike trails nestled on 40 acres of Hastings Mesa. Perfect for animal and nature enthusiasts seeking peace and quiet w/ 360 degree mountain views and close to Telluride, voted #1 Ski Resort in North America by Conde Nast. Easy access to restaurants, shopping & entertainment including the Telluride Film Festival and music festivals including blues, jazz, rock ‘n’roll and bluegrass. Enjoy modern living comforts off the grid in this 3,493 sq. ft. solar powered sanctuary surrounded by some of the most beautiful mountain scenery. By day, it’s ground zero for adventure lover’s with built in mountain bike/hike trails, 9 hole frisbee golf course, snowshoeing, cross country skiing and an equipped home gym. At night, it’s a star gazers paradise further illuminated by an outdoor fire pit. View an aerial property tour by searching "1291 Old Elam Ranch" on YouTube! Nestled in a no hunting zone, this secluded mountain home aims to “live in harmony” with the natural surroundings and wildlife including elk, moose, deer and sheep. It boasts a large geodesic greenhouse that uses solar energy to grow organic vegetables, fruits, herbs, flowers and succulents. We will leave a basket of that week’s fresh harvest on the kitchen counter for your enjoyment. This one-of-a-kind property feels a world away from hectic life in the big city. Sandwiched between Dallas Divide (Hwy. 62) and Telluride (Hwy. 145), this mesa sits at the base of the San Juan Mountains with majestic views of Mt. Sneffels, and the surrounding pinnacles which sit snow-capped throughout most of the year. The split level floor plans includes a private master suite which spans the second floor with an outdoor balcony (perfect for catching afternoon sunsets and rainbows) and bathroom with soaking tub. Two guest bedrooms and a bathroom anchor the opposite end of the house with stairs leading to a large loft space surrounded with picturesque windows including two large ceiling skylights. There are also 2 additional roll away beds and a pack and play crib for use at the property if needed. There are two main entrances (one for ski) that lead into an inviting living room with a vaulted wood beamed ceiling, wood burning fireplace and acoustic guitar for impromptu jam sessions by the fire. Anchored by a Viking Range, butcher block island and coffee/breakfast station, the well-appointed and open kitchen boasts plenty of space for cooking as well as a bar area that seats two comfortably. The kitchen flows seamlessly into a designated dining area and a family room featuring a large Natuzzi leather sectional and flat screen TV. Just off the kitchen and dining room are two French doors leading to the patio where deer, bunnies, chipmunks and humming birds make frequent appearances. This area features an outdoor dining table and seating for six for al fresco dining, two star gazing lounge chairs, a fire pit and outdoor shower. Youtube TV/Netflix/Showtime/HBO service is available on the 55-inch Smart TVs in family room and master suite. High speed Wi-Fi is available throughout the property including the detached home gym. There is also a portable Bluetooth speaker for your use while staying at the property. The house is equipped with lots of books and new board games as well as an indoor laundry nook featuring washer/dryer, detergent and dryer sheets. There is in-floor radiant heat, baseboard heating and a wood burning fireplace. The main road is plowed by the City and and we will have the driveway plowed for you as needed. There’s easy key pad entry to the house 24/7 and plenty of privacy. Enjoy the entire house and the surrounding 40 acres for the duration of your stay. Your local host, Emma, lives nearby and will be able to assist you with any questions/ needs. We want to make your stay as enjoyable as possible, so please let us know if you need any further assistance. The community, Old Elam Ranch, is a truly unique area, as it is one of the last remaining communities in the US requiring off-grid power only. We have a highly-functioning solar, wind, and backup generator system, and we remind people to be conscious of the power consumption and unplug electronics/appliances when not in use. All homes in Old Elam Ranch are no less than 35 acres, and privately owned. You are encouraged to explore the property but be mindful of the neighbors’ property boundaries. You may encounter sheep, which use the area as an agricultural grazing zone. There are wonderful views of the Sneffels Range, Uncompahgre, Wilson Peak, GreyHead, Lizard Head and numerous other points of interest. The house is ideally located 15 miles from Telluride and Telluride Regional Airport (TEX) and only about 1 hour from the Montrose Regional Airport (MTJ). Cell service with AT&T works well, Verizon service is limited, and other carriers are hit or miss. High speed Wi-Fi at the property is great and you can stream all cable services provided including YouTubeTV, Netflix, Showtime and HBO. You can also sign in with any of your personal subscriptions. The main roads in to Old Elam Ranch Community are maintained by the city, and typically plowed by 730 a.m., as needed. The community roads are plowed by the HOA first thing in the mornings as needed, along with the driveway. A 4X4 vehicle is recommended at all times and is required in the winter. There is no public transportation or UBER/LYFT service in the area. This is a mountain area community, so there will be the occasional storm passing through, which may cause in/out access to be limited for a period of time, like many rural areas. We suggest picking up groceries for your stay in Montrose or Ridgway on the way to the house from the airport. There is also a general store 15 minutes from the house in Placerville and there are grocery markets in Telluride.
