It draws many for its shopping, restaurants, and numerous outdoor activities. We have a pretty laid back up north feel here, where we hope you feel the Minnesota Nice. From The Hideaway, guests are within walking distance to so many things we love as locals: Portage Brewery & Wine Down wine bar, Walker Farmer's Market, Von Hanson's Meats, The Piggy BBQ and small local shops like the Peculiar Painter & The Art & Antique Mall of Walker, paved trail systems, and several spots to enjoy beautiful Leech Lake. The local grocery store & Green Scene Organic Market are about a 5-10 minute walk if you'd like to prepare your own meals. If you'd like to take a day trip, we recommend visiting Itasca State Park to see the headwaters of the Mississippi (35 miles). Or for a closer choice, hike, sled or cross country ski at Shingobee Recreation Area (5 miles) The Hideaway is located conveniently to: 1) Heartland Trail system (5 min bike ride, 10-15 min walk) Parking is also available at this location of the trail. 2) Downtown Walker (5 min bike ride, 10-15 min walk) Another option to get around while visiting The Hideaway is to use our 2 Schwinn cruiser bikes. You will not regret using this casual mode of transportation while exploring the town & trails of Walker! DOCK INSTALL/REMOVAL: and water toys are installed by fishing opener weekend (May) and removed after last weekend in October. OTHER: The Hideaway does not currently offer these common amenities- Dishwasher, Television, Laundry. Air Conditioning is a portable window unit that is installed in May & removed in September.
