Our house in Meyersdale is a single-family house just a block from the GAP bike trail on a quiet street and walking distance to the middle of town. The house is ideal for travelers riding the GAP, skiers visiting the slopes nearby, or those looking for some quiet time in the country. Ideal for individuals or small families. (Pls note: Trains come through town and the whistles can be heard during the day or night. There is also a fire whistle to alert volunteers to emergencies.) The main floor of the house has a living space, dining space, kitchen, and two indoor porches. The main living space can be closed off and has a futon/sleeper couch as well as a single sleeper chair. The downstairs bathroom (with shower) is accessible off the living room. Upstairs are two bedrooms and a bathroom. The upstairs bath has a tub/shower. In addition, we have a pack-n-play for babies, high chair and toys to use. You'll have access to all of the living spaces of the house, just not the basement area. The front and back porches are covered, indoor, and locked areas where bikes can be kept. There is a large yard in the back of the house, but no camping or parties in the yard, please. We are available for communication via messages but likely cannot accommodate immediate requests at the house. The Great Allegheny Passage passes by just a few hundred yards away (about one block) and is easily accessible from our street with no down or uphill needed. In the other direction is the active railway and trains can be heard during the day and the night. Our family has lived on this street since at least the turn of the 20th century, so this is a special place and you'll be able to tell from the details. Family members still live on the street and, therefore, please respect the quiet neighborhood that it is. Almost everything in Meyersdale is a short walk or bike away. There's plenty of car parking at the house, too — two spots in front and one in the back alley. If you need grocery items and do not have a car, the best bet is the Family Dollar on Grant St or the Sheetz. Otherwise, drive about a mile to the south end of town for the Food Lion. There are stairs to enter the house and stairs within the house. There is an active railway at the west end of the street. The trains must blow their whistle when entering town and it can be heard inside the house. Town also has a fire whistle - the fire dept is a volunteer department and the whistle will blow to alert them to respond. During the summer months, events at the fairgrounds can also be heard at the house - this includes moto-cross, tractor pulls, and demolition derbies. All of these are definitely interesting to watch, so search the Somerset Co, PA event listings to find out when these events occur.
