The Barn at Pond Point is perfectly situated on the Piankatank River, a salt water arm of the Chesapeake Bay. It shares 27 acres of wooded and waterfront property with the owner's main home. A unique space, Barn was converted from a working horse barn into a residence in the 1980's. With a quarter mile of private, sand beach and a large pool (May-Sept), the Barn is an ideal space for time with family and friends, swimming, hunting for prehistoric shark's teeth, or simply enjoying the view. Two private bedrooms and a sleeping area located off the large main living space make the barn a comfortable place to get away and relax. There are two beds - one king and one queen - that each sleep two, and a separate room with three singles for a total seven bed spots, plus couches and floor space. The kitchen is well equipped with an electric stove, microwave and dishwasher. The barn is all yours. Feel free to explore all 27 acres of the property - lawn, forest, and beach. You are welcome to use the beach until 10:00 p.m. The pool is open only in the summer. The opening and closing dates can vary depending on the weather - e.g. cool Spring -> later opening, etc. We are currently on methods of heating the pool so that we can open it earlier in the season. We live in the main home on the property about 100 yards away across the pool area and can be reached by mobile phone between the hours of 7:00 a.m. and 5:00 p.m., or just knock on our door. Mathews county is nearly and island and there is a vast amount of waterfront compared to its land area. We mail each guest a fairly comprehensive description prior to arrival. In addition to its ideal location on the river (salt water), there are many historical sites within an hour's drive of the Barn including Yorktown, Jamestown, Colonial Williamsburg, Fort Nonsense and the New Point Comfort Lighthouse. Also the Richmond and Petersburg Battlefields for Civil War buffs about 1 hr 15 min drive. Car, bicycle, or motorbike. Mathews Courthouse is about 8 miles distant on paved highways. During this time of sheltering from the Coronavirus, our place is nearly ideal. You are 1200 ft from the rural road Rt. 629 on 27 private acres, and separated from the (fully vaccinated - Yay!) hosts by 100 yards. Generally the only people coming into the property are delivery personnel. Dogs love it here too. Dogs are welcome, with the exception of Pit Bulls. Those are not allowed based on previous difficulties. Access by boat is easy via the Piankatank River. There is deep water for anchorage, and smaller boats can also be run onto the beach.
