Occasionally bald eagles, elk, coyotes, owls, marmots, and fox also visit the property. Yak Ridge is located at an elevation of 5,000 feet providing for cool evenings and star-studded skies. We acquired the property in 2014 and named it Yak Ridge in honor of our small yak herd and for the hillside's resemblance to the ridge on the back of a yak. The farmstead is home to honey bees, chickens, and even a small herd of Himalayan yaks. Yak Ridge is located on the west central edge of Eagle Mountain recognizable by its rock outcrop peak. Bald Eagles have historically nested in the area and are often seen soaring the skies. During Prohibition, our corner of the Ranch was known as Whiskey Gulch. Remnants of old bootlegger roads and the spring that cooled the whiskey still can be found on Forest Service property adjacent to Yak Ridge. Looking for additional space? Cleaning and Sanitizing Protocols As always, the health, safety, and comfort of our guests are our highest priorities. We pride ourselves in the cleanliness of our cabins as evident by our guest reviews and our commitment to meeting and exceeding South Dakota Department of Health requirements. To that end, and in light of the current global health crisis, we have further enhanced our cleaning and sanitizing protocols which also align with the CDC. We appreciate the hard work of our public health officials in their efforts to develop and deliver vaccines. Based on current estimates for a lengthy timeframe for herd immunity to be established, and the emergence of variants, we plan to continue our COVID protocols throughout the 2021 season and will continue to monitor CDC guidelines and public health updates so that we can make adjustments to our protocols as needed. We are dedicated to minimizing the risks associated with COVID-19. Many of our practices have been a part of our cleaning and sanitizing protocols for years, and even though these efforts have expanded, we never charge service or cleaning fees. Highlights of our protocols between guest stays include but are not limited to the following: • Self Check-in is Contact-free with personalized key code access • Cleaning Crews wear masks and disposable gloves, and practice good hand hygiene. • Cleaning products meet EPA and CDC guidelines. • Cabins are ventilated for a minimum of five hours between guests (usually more). • High touch and solid surfaces are cleaned and sanitized. Those linens include quilts, sheets, blankets, throws, pillow protectors, mattress protectors, shower curtains and liners, towels, tablecloths, placemats, and hot pads. • Trash cans, brooms, and dustpans are also sanitized. • Cleaning products and tools are also cleaned and disinfected. • Guests are provided with a complimentary welcome kit which includes sanitized slippers, as well as travel sized hand sanitizer, Kleenex, and sanitizing wipes.
