Nestled in 400 acres of farmland is the private, rustic elegance of our 18th century Baynard House. Step back in time at Herring Creek Farm as you get a private tour of our property and home, which has been meticulously maintained and furnished with antiques. Relax in your private suite, complete with luxurious bed, couch, TV and recently-renovated ensuite bathroom. When you're ready for an adventure, go hiking, canoeing, fishing, or drive to nearby Chesapeake City. Chef's breakfast included. Climb the spiral staircase, to reach your private suite. The space is complete with a lounging area and fireplace, comfortable bed with fresh linens, and full ensuite bathroom with double sinks and a stand-up shower. Take this time to disconnect from the digital world and immerse yourself in nature. Both cell phone service and wifi are unreliable, providing for the perfect digital escape. Jet pack WiFi is available upon request but will not support streaming. When you're ready to explore the house, you will enjoy a private tour and have full access to our newly-renovated, gourmet kitchen, great room and breakfast room, and the grounds. In addition to your private accommodations, you're also invited to use our gourmet kitchen, great room, breakfast room and patio. You're also welcome to explore the property, which spans 400 acres and includes two large ponds and 3 miles of private access to the Herring Creek waterfront. We are happy to give you a tour of our private, Colonial property during your stay. Your stay on Herring Creek Farm can be as relaxing and secluded or as eventful and entertaining as you wish. As your hosts, we do live on the property and are always available to answer any questions, give you a tour, invite you to dine with us, or leave you to your private space. We'd love to entertain you as our guests, if you wish. Regardless of how private you'd like your visit to be, we invite you to explore and enjoy the property at your leisure. You'll be staying in an 18th century home on 400 acres of working farmland complete with wildlife, waterfront, and scenic views for miles. We offer several Experiences to our guests who stay with us, including private yoga classes, private art classes, culinary experiences, wine tastings, hunting and skeet shooting experiences, camping, childcare and more. If you choose to partake in one of those, you'll be interacting with the hosts more. Please message us for more information on these Experiences. The farm is less than 3 miles from downtown Chesapeake City, Maryland — a charming waterfront destination for antiquing, historic walking tours and noshing on seafood like locally-caught Maryland Blue Crabs. Each season is beautifully celebrated, with quaint decorations and community events for occasions like Christmas and the Chesapeake City Lions Club Car Show. Explore via bike on one of the many trails, or watch the boats sail by as you enjoy an ice cream cone instead. If you're looking for more modern excursion, you can drive 20 minutes to nearby Middletown, Delaware, which boasts larger shopping areas with favorite stores like Target, Marshalls and HomeGoods. The Christiana Mall is also a popular destination for sale-tax-free shopping. Drive one hour North and you'll hit Philadelphia, where you can enjoy many different types of big city attractions in one day. Head to the Philadelphia Zoo, marvel at master works in the Philadelphia Museum of Art, or head to one of many neighborhood delis for a bite of the famous Philly cheesesteak. Drive a little more than an hour South and you'll hit Baltimore, where you can get fresh air at the Baltimore Inner Harbor, check out the National Aquarium, or catch a baseball game at Oriole Park at Camden Yards. Car is the best way to access the farm. Our property and Chesapeake City are also full of walking/hiking and biking trails, so you may access the property and local town that way. Other ways to access us include boat (via Chesapeake City), train (Amtrak, via Wilmington, Delaware) and plane. If you're flying to visit us, the nearest large airports are Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) and Baltimore/Washington International Thurgood Marshall Airport (BWI) — both about a one-hour drive away. Locally, Summit Airport is a 20-minute drive away from the farm if you require private air access. Please note that Herring Creek Farm is an authentic piece of Americana. The manor home was built in the 18th century and is filled with genuine antiques. The property is a working farm with a waterfront component. For these reasons, the property is not handicap accessible. There are many cobblestone walkways and narrow staircases, and though we've renovated several areas of the home (including the gourmet kitchen and your private ensuite bathroom), this historic home does not meet many modern building requirements for accessibility. Should you choose to explore the grounds, please be wary of the wildlife surrounding you. The natural habitat of the farm includes bugs, plant life, allergens, and wildlife (and mud — lots and lots of mud). As homeowners and stewards of the land, we do our best to educate our guests on any concerns we might have depending on the time of the year, but we always recommend you bring clothes appropriate for the outdoors, wear bug spray, and leave your high heels at home.
