Captain's Hideaway - Escape from the Mainland
Your journey begins with decompression time on board the ferry to this little-known Puget Sound island, just an hour south of Seattle. Our nautical-themed home nestled in the forest provides the perfect retreat to unwind from the hustle & bustle of city life & enjoy nature's beauty. On Anderson Island you will feel like you have left the urban world behind since there aren't even traffic lights, but we have 1 handy market, 1 small café, 1 lovely restaurant, a 9-hole golf course, & a cell tower! The nautical theme, wood ceilings, surrounding trees, as well as the Coast First Nations Indigenous Art create the feeling of a true Pacific Northwest retreat. The many windows provide an inviting view of the forest outside and party lights create a fun atmosphere inside. A beautiful, tiled, double shower adjoins the Captain's Quarters (aka master bedroom) and there is a queen bed in the Crew's Quarters. The living room is two spaces in one. One sofa is aligned to allow you to snuggle by the fireplace, while the other sofa is focused on the TV with DVD player so you can enjoy videos, such as the Pirates of the Caribbean - aargh! On sunny days, the large deck in the backyard is the place to be, with towering trees, a Weber charcoal BBQ, and chairs around the firepit to regale the day's adventure! Guests will have full access to all rooms, decks and yard space. However there is a locked shed along the side of the property. Wayne will provide his phone number with the lockbox code so that you can call or text him if you have any questions or problems. Our housekeeper will also be available on the island if you need someone onsite. The little Anderson Island General Store is well stocked with just about everything you could need during your stay, and it is within walking distance from our house. But it is by no means a full-scale grocery store so you may want to bring specialty items with you. The cafe next door offers a good cup of coffee, wonderful breakfast options, as well as sandwiches and salads. The Lakeshore restaurant is the only restaurant on the island, but it is beautiful, with wonderful food and great service. The outside deck has a fabulous view of Lake Josephine and the pineapple upside-down cake is a yummy way to end a lovely evening! The Riviera Community Club also offers a nine-hole golf course across the street from the Lakeshore restaurant, as well as a small marina with a covered pavilion just down the road. Paddle boats are available for rent at the Community Club. Anderson Island boasts 8 public parks and two large freshwater lakes. These provide opportunities for hiking, kayaking, SUPs, beachcombing, photography and breathtaking views of Mount Rainier with South Puget Sound in the foreground. The entire island is 7.7 square miles which means that you can drive to just about anywhere on the island in around 15 minutes. There are no stoplights on the island, and only a few stop signs. Our house happens to be near the middle of the island, so it is an easy walk to the center of town (which includes the General Store, Café and Post Office) or Lake Florence, and it is a short drive to Lake Josephine. Eagle Island State Park is a wildlife wonderland that is only accessed by boat off the north shore of Anderson Island. There is no Wi-Fi available at the house. However the cell phone signal is strong, so you can use a hotspot if you have one. There is also a large collection of DVDs, books, games and puzzles available. The peace and quiet, and remote nature of Anderson Island creates a nice opportunity to disconnect from the rest of the world and the internet, and enjoy mother nature!
