Flatiron Historic Sandstone Inn, located in downtown Hot Springs, SD is known for its healing waters, fresh air and natural history. You will find a warm, crystal clear spring fed river just steps out your door. Meander its banks on the 2 mile trail through town. The brilliant blue skies and morning smell of pines reminds you of the natural rhythm of life, and the rich history of both Native Americans and settlers is enchanting, yet sobering. Come stay with us and feel it for yourself! Suite #9 is a very private studio apartment with Queen bed and pull out couch for sleeping. It has a fully equipped kitchenette with coffee pot, dishes and ample cooking supplies. The bathroom area has an antique claw foot tub with handheld shower head. It does not have a stand up shower. The sandstone walls, salt lamps and intimate coziness of this suite gives a sense of Earthy connection and reflects the natural, organic feel of the entire Black Hills. We provide soft cotton bath towels, high thread count sheets, cozy beds & pillows, organic teas and coffee and courtyard with chairs, tables, and lots of foliage. It's not just a place to stay, but an experience:) #9 is the only apartment that has private entrance upon arrival. You can park in the parking lot or the back side of the building (which gives you direct access to apartment. You will see a wooden rail and #9 on it. Go through the wood gate (next to room #8) and down the sandstone steps (the steps are original and not even. please be careful). The door will be unlocked and key will be in pottery dish on kitchen island (unless other arrangements have been made). We usually are not there when you arrive, and want to give you the freedom of your own home, however, you can contact me at any time and we are just a couple minutes away:) Flatiron is an easy 1/2 block walk to Upper Crust restaurant for breakfast with a huge choice of homemade breads with every meal. Within the same block is Bourbon County Speakeasy lounge, which is a classy, laid back local place to unwind. A couple blocks further and you'll find Kidney Springs gazebo where you can fill your water jugs with natural spring water running 24/7 from the mountain. This is also the beginning of a 2 mile round trip trail along the natural spring fed river. If you head west from Kidney Springs gazebo, you are only 1 block to Moccasin Springs Natural Mineral Spa and Buffalo Dreamer gourmet dining... a truly relaxing and healing experience. Venture just a few miles to see wild Mustang horses run at a 14,000 acre sanctuary, visit the ice age at the Mammoth Site archaeological dig site, go where the American Bison roam free at Wind Cave National Park and swim and boat at Angostura Lake State Park. Plan a day trip and visit Crazy Horse National Monument, Badlands National Park, Custer State Park, Devils Tower, Mount Rushmore and more. There is a set of original sandstone steps to go down to get to apartment. We have chosen to keep these steps as they are instead of redoing them. They are uneven! There is a handrail to help you, however, I do not recommend this suite for the elderly or anyone who has trouble with steps or has a compromised gait.
