Akerhuset, Swedish for "the Farm House," originally built around 1900 retains its original floor layout, but is now filled modern-day conveniences. Walk onto Akerhuset's front porch with two rocking chairs into its entry with an enormous kitchen and island with seating for four and yet another four. The nearby living room is a great place for conversation with a wall-mounted Smart TV. Follow the original staircase to three bedrooms, each with a queen-size bed with Casper mattress, armoire, desk with office chair and half bath. A separate room with a shower is shared. The staircase to the lower level reveals two bedroom suites, each with a queen-side bed with Casper mattress, armoire, closet and ensuite bathroom with shower. The onsite washer and dryer area includes a place to hang and fold laundry. And the tornado shelter (because you never know!) doubles as a second living area with comfy seating and another Smart TV. Located just a few blocks from downtown Lindsborg, Akerhuset (Swedish for "the Farm House") transports guests back to the family farm. In fact, the entire home was carefully moved from its original location north of town to where it rests today! Many locals, even a few TV reporters from Wichita, came out for this event! Enter the five-bedroom farmhouse from the rocker-filled front porch with a frosted window from Grant Street. After hanging up your coat and kicking off your shoes, you'll be in awe of the expansive kitchen with a historic-beam lighting fixture hanging over the large island with bar stool seating for four. With plenty of cabinets and counter space, it's an easy task to whip up your favorite meals or a late-night snack. A bar-height table and chairs for four are nestled into the bay window nearby. A half bath is near the back door. Next to the kitchen, the living room, with a comfy sofa and chairs, is great for conversation and laughter while watching your favorite shows on Hulu+Live TV (no ads) on the Smart TV. The original double-hung windows provide plenty of sunshine on Kansas' best days. The original wooden staircase nearby leads upstairs to three bedrooms, each with a queen-size Casper mattress, armoire, desk, chairs and a Smart TV. The original closets have been converted into half-baths. The second floor offers a dedicated shower room, so everyone can take turns. A new staircase to the lower level leads to two bedroom suites, each one again with a queen-size Casper mattress, armoire, desk, office chair and Smart TV. Each ensuite bathroom features a shower. The onsite washer and dryer, with a drying rack for folding towels and clothes, are just steps away. The tornado shelter also serves as a secondary living area with comfy seats and yet another Smart TV. Sustainability is literally built into Akerhuset. The home's interior is heated and cooled with high-efficiency electric heat pumps, often called minisplits, that are individually controlled with remotes. Appliances are Energy Star certified and plumbing fixtures offer low-flow efficiency. The recycling bin is in the kitchen. And yes, the City of Lindsborg recycles. Guests are provided with a keyless entry code. Guests communicate with our local property manager by phone or text. The property manager can meet the guests for a tour of the property. Lindsborg, Kansas is an artist community that embraces its unique spin on all things Swedish. Guests visit Lindsborg for its festivals, shopping along Main Street and art museums, including the Sandzen Gallery (America's Van Gogh). Coronado Heights (a "castle" built by the Works Progress Administration during the Depression) is a popular destination for picnics and to soak in the view of farmlands and prairie. Larger cities of Salina and McPherson are a short drive away. Another destination is the Cosmosphere, the largest collection of Russian and American space memorabilia outside of the Smithsonian - including the Apollo 13 capsule Odyssey. Guests drive to this destination. Lindsborg is located about 4 miles west of I-135. The closest airport is Salina Municipal Airport (SLN), approximately 20 miles away. The Eisenhower National Airport in Wichita (ICT) is approximately 80 miles away. Guests are asked to supervise children. Guests must be 25 or older. No parties. No pets and no smoking.
