Good dining, sno-parks, great hiking, mt. biking, Skibowl adventure park - all within 15 min! Fabulous skiing - only 30 min. to Mt. Hood Meadows/Timberline Lodge! A sturdy ladder leads upstairs to a small, low-roofed sleeping loft that has one full-sized bed and one twin bed divided by a privacy wall. (Note that NOBODY UNDER AGE 9 is allowed on the ladder or in the loft.) The living room big cushy chair folds out into another twin bed. The cabin is very comfortable with lots of windows, and retains a mid-century rustic feel. But it also has modern conveniences - brand new plumbing with new tiled shower, toilet, and water heater, a brand new electrical system, a fully supplied kitchen with a new dishwasher and fridge, and a vintage stove that works great. There's a also a brand new washer and dryer. If you just can't get off the grid, there's hi-speed WiFi (500 mbps), a large antique desk and printer for your use, a flat-screen TV (no cable, but streaming Netflix, Amazon, Roku, Hulu), and a Bluetooth speaker. A large covered front porch has an outside dining table and Adirondack chairs. There's a new BBQ grill in the very wooded backyard, a picnic table and two hammocks. In summer, the cabin is shaded by the woods and well cooled with many fans. On cooler days and nights, you can drink hot chocolate by the wood stove, which cranks plenty of heat. There are also space heaters in each room. From October to April, a fire-ring is available for small bonfires. Well-behaved dogs of selective breeds are most welcome (as long as they are cleaned up after); dog dishes, a blanket and toys are supplied. SORRY NO CATS or other pets allowed. There are many games, books and puzzles for children and adults. A booster seat, high chair, portable crib and kiddie pool are available. The cabin is far enough from the highway to hear no road noise, and close enough to the Salmon River to hear it rushing. The neighbors in the subdivision are nice, mostly families or retired, and very quiet. Many good restaurants and taverns are within 5-10 minutes; several in historic buildings. The cabin is located 20 minutes to Skibowl, 30 minutes to historic Timberline Lodge and Ski Resort, and 36 minutes to Mt. Hood Meadows, one of the largest ski resorts in Oregon. Several sno-parks offer sledding and cross-country skiing. The cabin is at (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) altitude, so may or may not have snow on the ground in winter. In warmer seasons, you can take a short walk down to the Salmon River or bike to the Brightwood country store on one of our bikes. It's only a 5 minute drive to fabulous old growth hiking at the Wildwood recreation area, which has a wild salmon viewing station under the pristine Salmon River. Or 5 minutes in the other direction to lovely Middle Earth-like Barlow Wayside park. The huge Sandy Ridge mountain bike trail system starts only 2 miles from the cabin. It's only 10 minutes to the Zigzag Ranger Station and historic towns of Welches and Rhododendron and 15 minutes to the Salmon Huckleberry Wilderness Area with its famously beautiful Old Salmon River Trail. Slightly further, trails at all levels lead through the Mount Hood National Forest to swimmable lakes, rushing waterfalls, historic pioneer sites and alpine wildflower meadows with 7 mountain vistas. (Or, if the season is right, to huckleberry fields or wild mushrooms.) The very fun Skibowl summer Adventure Park is only 20 minutes from the cabin, with bungee jumping, ziplining and a 1/2 mile alpine slide, across the street from the restaurants and breweries of historic Government Camp. The Timberline Lodge and Mt. Hood Meadows ski resorts are only a short distance further up the mountain - they often have summer events including wine dinners and hiking via chair lifts. Guests can use the entire cabin and 1/3 acre wooded lot. I am available at (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) or (Email hidden by Airbnb) Feel free to contact me with any questions. This is a quiet, old subdivision with a mix of new and old houses, far away enough from the highway so you can't hear it at all but you CAN hear the rushing of the nearby Salmon River. It is a residential family area with kids and people walking dogs - definitely not a party neighborhood! Not near public transportation. Plenty of parking. You can get around on one of our bikes! HEAT: The home will most likely be cold when you arrive. Each room has a space heater - please only use them when you are using a room and be sure to make sure they're off when you leave the cabin. PLEASE NOTE that the wood stove is the primary source of heat in the main room. It can heat the entire cabin to a cozy temperature if you keep it going. It gets very hot - sometimes too hot! BE CAREFUL NOT TO LEAVE ANYTHING FLAMMABLE TOUCHING THE STOVE OR WITHIN 2 FEET. KEEP CHILDREN AWAY FROM THE HOT STOVE. Please bring your own firewood and kindling. Feel free to use any wood or kindling that you find next to the stove, but please replace any wood you use. As this cabin is in a highly wooded, rural area, and is not hermetically sealed, please note that on occasion there is an occasional bug that finds its way in, usually a spider. There has been one mouse appearance, which was rapidly taken care of. If this causes you trepidation, this place is not for you!
