Sleep in a turn-of-the-century Victorian farmhouse in the scenic hills of middle Tennessee. The state's oldest railroad line came through Normandy in 1853 and still carries frequent freight trains day and night past our front porch while whistling for a nearby crossing. Some find trains romantic, others not so much. We're 3 minutes to the George Dickel Distillery and 26 minutes to Lynchburg and a Jack Daniel's tour. There's kayak and canoe rentals here in season and a lake beach for swimming. Located in the tiny railroad village of Normandy, our circa 1900 Victorian farmhouse is reminiscent of childhood visits to Grandma's with a front porch sitting area and a swing for conversation, eating, or just relaxing and watching the trains roll by. There's a fire-placed parlor for curling up with a book or watching a movie on our wide-screen TV from the DVD library. We'll provide the popcorn. Of course, password protected wi-fi is available. For breakfast, see the list of restaurants serving breakfast a short 10 minute drive to Tullahoma in the "Other Things to Note" section below. Parking is available in front of the house. If you are checking yourself in there is a key lock box on the front porch with a key to the front entry door and one for your room. The owner will provide you a combination code to open the lock box when your reservation is confirmed. Guests have access to the living room, a shared bathroom, the coffee service area with mini-fridge and microwave in the entry hall, the front porch, and the surrounding grounds. There is a "Things You Need To Know" card in the guest room with the wi-fi password and other essential information about your stay. Your arrival may be self-check-in depending on the availability of the host who is always just a text or phone call away. Keys to the entrance and to your bedroom are provided at check in. Historic Normandy was established in 1852 with the construction of Tennessee's oldest mainline railroad between Nashville and Chattanooga. The CSX trains still roar day and night through town between our front porch and the downtown area and are readily audible from your room as they whistle for the nearby crossing. Light sleepers, take heed. Our village is ideal for leisurely strolls past turn-of-the-century frame houses with wide porches and friendly waves from the neighbors. Normandy is located in the heart of Bedford County's outdoor recreational area with kayaking and canoeing on the Duck River or Normandy Lake to which F.A.B. Rentals will deliver you and pick you up in season. There's also hiking trails, a lake beach for swimming, and fishing and camping sites. There are several restaurants and lounges within a 15 minute drive of Normandy in nearby Tullahoma. Although Normandy is located in a remote valley surrounded by picturesque hills reminiscent of New England, it's easily accessible from interstate highway I-24 and U.S. highway 41A. We're just over an hour from Nashville, 15 minutes from Tullahoma, 20 minutes from Shelbyville, and just minutes from antiques, crafts, gift shops, restaurants, and annual events in historic Wartrace (14 min.) and victorian Bell Buckle (23 min.). The annual Bonaroo music and arts festival in Manchester is only 38 minutes away. The gothic architecture of the University of The South campus at Sewanee atop Monteagle Mountain is a 53 minute drive from Normandy. Breakfast and some local color is available with a 10-minute drive to Tullahoma. There's Damron’s at 714 Lincoln St.; or the Downtown Café at 119 N. Jackson St.; and the Waffle House at 1914 N. Jackson St. The SunDrop Café, our favorite, at 217 NW Atlantic St. serves breakfast Tues-Sat from 8 am to 3 pm. Of course, there's the usual drive-thru fast food restaurants on Highway 41-A, aka N. Jackson St., the same distance from the Old Farmhouse.
