On the bluffs overlooking the Great River Road and Mississippi River, “459” is a charming, comfortable bungalow located in the historic Christian Hill neighborhood of Alton, IL. This spacious three-bedroom home is the perfect setting for a relaxing getaway, family gatherings, your bridal party or a weekend visit to the Argosy Casino. It is also the perfect space for a business traveler needing an extended stay. Come enjoy a delightful home away from home. You may never leave the front porch! The beautiful fall foliage and cool weather will be here soon. This is the perfect home to enjoy it with family and friends. This unique home, owned by the same family for over 100 years, has been updated and renovated but still holds its vintage charm and character. The entire house and patio are available, including the two-sided wrap around front porch with beautiful views from dawn to dusk. The tugboats pushing the barges down the river to the locks and dam or the sailboats exploring the Mississippi waters are only upstaged by the beautiful sunsets each evening. The large master bedroom has a comfortable queen bed surrounded by bay windows. There is a dresser and large closet to help you settle in. Waking up in the morning is delightful with the sound of songbirds and a patio view filled with flowers in the springtime. The second bedroom has a comfortable queen bed, large closet and dresser and a beautiful view from the front of the house. The third bedroom has a single bed, with a view of the river from the back of the house. In addition, there is a Pak 'N Play if needed. Extra linens, pillows and blankets are available. The large, full bathroom has a shower with a bathtub. It features a large window for natural light, an overhead fan, hair dryer, makeup mirror, and an abundance of big fluffy towels. Hotel size shampoo, conditioner, etc are available in case you forget yours. The kitchen is fully stocked with everything thing you need. The stove/oven, refrigerator, microwave, coffee maker, electric tea kettle, crockpot, blender, mixer, wine opener, dishes, glassware, cooking utensils and pans will keep any chef equipped and happy. A washer/dryer located in the basement, is available by prior request. The living room and dining room are open, airy and comfortable. The dining room table will seat six guests comfortably. It is a perfect gathering spot for game night or family meals. The living room, located at the front of the house boasts bay windows and a large front window to take advantage of the river views. There is Wifi, and regular broadcast TV with a Fire Stick for streaming services. The Christian HIll neighborhood is lined with antebellum Victorian homes along brick streets. Riverview Park, with its Victorian bandstand, sunken gardens and spectacular view is just a quick walk from "459". During the summer months you will hear the lively band concerts from the front porch. Bluff City “459” is less than a mile from bustling, downtown Alton where you will find wonderful restaurants, specialty shops, the Jacoby Art Center, the Argosy Casino riverboat, the riverfront Amphitheater, Antique Row with over 30 antique shops, a local pottery store, and local microbreweries and pubs. The Great River Road is a beautiful ride either by car or bike. The historic town of Grafton, with it’s winery, bluff top restaurant, a Zipline and Gondola adventure, an excursion boat, along with farmer markets and flea markets is a short 16 miles away. It is 22 miles to beautiful Forest Park in St .. Louis, 24 miles to downtown St. Louis (Busch Stadium)and 26 miles to St. Charles. In addition, beautiful Pere Marquette State Park and Lodge is just 22 miles away Raging Rivers Waterpark offers a flume ride, wave pool, tree house harbor and much, much more for your summer fun. You are welcome to access the entire home, yard and patio area. The basement is not accessible unless prior arrangements have been made for the use of the washer and dryer. As a host, (and as a seasoned traveler/guest) I understand the importance of someone being available to answer questions and address concerns. My number will be available to you upon check-in, along with a caretaker's, if a problem should arise. There is little public transportation available nearby. Downtown and the riverfront is a good (but hilly) walk. Uber is available as well as taxis. Regional bike trails converge on the riverfront providing a connection between the MCT Confluence Trail and theSam Vadalabene Bike trail.
