Welcome to the Mill House in Hobo, an inviting, cozy getaway retreat in historic Hillsborough's west end. Whether you’re coming alone for the solitude or with someone special, this cozy and bright historic mill home in the Bellevue Mill Circle in Hillsborough's eclectic West End offers a peaceful retreat. Looking to house more than 2? Consider the additional rental space accommodating up to 3 more guests and dog friendly found at this Airbnb listing "The Store in Hobo" behind the Mill House. The Mill House offers an eclectic experience of original artwork, warm colors, and cozy textures. Comfort says it all. Golden pine wood floors and warm red brick central hearth (non working) make this unique place alive with historical detail and old school coziness. A wonderful retreat for lovers celebrating each other or an anniversary spot for a lover of solitude, the Mill House offers guests serenity. The back deck and yard are a common space shared with any guests who may be staying at "The Store in Hobo" behind the Mill House. Both the Mill House and The Store are used by quiet, mature guests respectful of others and privacy. Your host, John Higgins, is always accessible by text, cell, or messaging through the Airbnb app. A native Minnesotan, he splits his time between Hillsborough and Minneapolis. Enjoy the back yard and the back deck attached to the Mill House. These are common spaces shared with guests who may be staying with their dog friends in “The Store in Hobo.” Please be respectful of other guests and their privacy as they are of you and yours. Goldfinches, Cardinals, Bluebirds, Orioles, Carolina Wrens and more to see on the feeders out your kitchen window near the west side of the backyard. West Hillsborough grew around two historic textile mills both renovated into interesting lofts and business spaces. A community of mill employees and their families lived in the small turn of the century houses like the Mill House around the mills and called this neighborhood home as you will too staying here. The Mill House, located in the Bellevue Mill Circle neighborhood on Webb Street, sits at the top of the Nash Street hill just north of the fabulously restored Bellevue Mill Apartments & Lofts. This friendly and diverse neighborhood offers young and old families, retired couples, hipsters, dog lovers, and folks of all stripes an enjoyable, peaceful place to plant their gardens and roots, walk to the public library, and drink in the rich tastes and sights of this lovely, quirky and inspiring community you may call home too. Park your car. You won't need it! Walk everywhere in Hillsborough. From the Mill House you are a short 5 blocks west of several happening restaurants, pubs, art galleries and shops on Churton Street, Hillsborough’s historic and artsy main drag. On your walk east downtown stop to sip coffee and catch up at CupaJoe. Cross the street from CupaJoe to visit Purple Crow Bookshop. There you will find the work of this literary community, including writers Annie Dillard, Allan Gurganus, Jill McCorkle, and Lee Smith. Walk around the corner to the Hillsborough Wine Company for a wine tasting or stop and feel the richness of the yarn at Hillsborough Yarn Shop and sign up to a class for your next knitting project. Walk just two blocks southeast from the Mill House to access Hillsborough’s popular River Walk along the Eno River. Or walk east on Margaret Lane from Webb Street the few short blocks to Hillsborough’s well stocked public library. Stroll the River Walk east along the river to Weaver Street Market for all your grocery needs or to dine and watch the people from the covered patio at this marvelous food coop and hub of community activity. Walk further east on the River Walk past the town park. Cross the river east of the park to access the historic Occoneechee Speedway Trail next to the river where you will hear owls call to accompany your 9/10ths oval mile walk there. You will also find scenic and shady walking at beautiful Ary Mount and it’s “Poet’s Walk” near the Eno River north of the Speedway trail. Hungry? You don’t need to go far. Walk one block south from the Mill House down the Nash Street hill past the newly renovated Bellevue Mill Lofts to the West End businesses where you will find Napoli Wood Fired Pizza, Hillsborough BBQ, Whit's Frozen Custard, and at the corner, the Nash Street Tavern. Restaurant recommendations for finer dining are Antonia’s or Panciuto on Churton Street, Hillsborough’s main street. Other restaurants and a pub lover's pub, The Wooden Nickel, are found on Churton and King Street downtown to help add to your enjoyment of downtown Hobo! Want to stretch your legs more? Further south of the West End businesses on Nash Street and just across the railroad tracks is Gold Park where you will find walking paths and people/pets watching at the fenced dog park.
