Welcome to the West and the Cowboy Cabin. We are nestled between a peaceful, private stretch of the Wind River and the spectacular Painted Hills, leading into the Badlands. The first thing you will notice, after you settle into the cabin, is the resounding silence. And in that quiet you will begin seeing wildlife out front. You might see our resident Great Horned Owl or a Bald Eagle jousting with an Osprey for the Brown Trout 100 meters from the deck. The cabin is 100 years old and has been updated with modern amenities. There are 3 rooms, each separable by accordion doors. The master bedroom with en-suite bath has a comfortable, queen bed, IKEA duvet, and 100% cotton sheets. The kitchen/dining room has a 7 foot table of reclaimed wood, perfect for wildlife gazing out the front with binoculars, which we provide for you or tying flies for your day on the river. The kitchen has all necessary cookware, which are sanitized between renters, toaster, coffee maker with Wind River Coffee, spices and cookbooks. The step-down TV room has a full size fold-out sofa and wonderful wood stove with a fire laid prior to arrival. Cable & excellent internet, of course. Each of these rooms can be closed off from the rest. Additionally, there is a small laundry room with washer and dryer and all necessary soaps and softeners. The deck out front is a special spot for a glass of wine in the evening or breakfast before daily exploring. And for the kids (and the kid in you) there is a fire-pit by the river with a rope swing nearby. The whole space is approximately 750 square feet and is luxurious for 2 people, quite comfortable for a 4-person family, and accommodating for 6 people who don’t need as much privacy. We charge an extra $15 per night for a 3rd bed (full-sized IKEA) to be brought into the kitchen/diningroom. And please tell us how many beds you require. Many guests make day trips to Yellowstone, Grand Teton and the bustling, glitzy town of Jackson. Closer to home, Dubois has the charm of a 1950’s Western Town. And for those wanting to get out into nature-the possibilities are endless. Whiskey Basin, 10 miles from the cabin, has hiking views of glaciers, petroglyphs, trout streams, and in the winter, Bighorn Sheep. The Badlands, 1 mile from our door, open out into 10 miles of painted cliffs before getting to the Absaroka Mountains. Horseback riding can be arranged into the Painted Hills. And did I mention fishing? Right out front, catch and release only, please. You would not be making a mistake to spend your whole vacation right here. We invite guests to let us know what their special interests are in order to leave appropriate information in the cabin upon arrival. Due to the debilitating effect of COVID and the Delta variant, not only on the patient but also on the community impacted, we welcome those who have had their vaccinations.
