Enjoy Leelanau County in our beautiful Scandinavian farmhouse! Completely renovated with love in 2017, this farmhouse is a piece of Leelanau history and ready to welcome you for a deserved getaway. 1 mile to the quaint Empire village, and 1/2 a mile to some of the most unspoiled beaches in North America, this farmhouse is the perfect landing spot. Bordered by the National Lakeshore, we are so excited to share our special spot with you! Please read the entire listing. 2 guests max; no commercial use, weddings or parties. One bedroom is perfect for a couple or single traveler. The bedroom is on the second floor of the house, with the full bath. This house is NOT suitable for toddlers or other small children. If you'd like to book with an infant, please message us ahead of time so we can discuss if this is an appropriate fit. This is our home, so the kitchen is stocked with necessities and the sheets are highest quality. Clean towels, plants, vintage textiles and an enormously comfortable couch! We stay off site when hosting guests, though we might stop by in the yard to the tend the garden (help yourself to produce and flowers!) and say hello. If we are on property, our interaction with you will be limited, as we understand how important privacy is for a relaxing and enjoyable vacation. As residents of Leelanau County, we can share lots of inside tips and make great recommendations for you to enjoy your stay. Internet code in the house and the WIFI is strong and supports work from home! We have a TV that does not have cable, but is connected to Netflix, Roku, Amazon Prime, etc. This house will very poor cell phone reception unless you use the Wifi. If the WIFI is out, you will not have cell service in the house. There is not laundry. We heat with a wood stove and heat pump in the winter. We have never needed AC and this house does not have AC; we have fans and good airflow, but Northern Michigan does not generally require AC. We love to cook and our kitchen is fully stocked to allow you to cook as much as you'd like! We’ll ensure coffee and creamer are in the fridge upon arrival; feel free to let us know your favorite coffee products and we’ll do our best to make sure they’re there! Enjoy our electric sauna as well--great for sore muscles after long beach hikes! The garden is massive and we encourage you to harvest as able or we can provide freshly picked vegetables and flowers if you'd like. Our dogs live on the property with us and are in the house, so be aware if you have allergies. If you choose to bring a dog, please message us ahead of time to share your pet's info. If your dog travels with you, we ask that you keep them leashed at all times on the property. Be aware that the National Lakeshore allows dogs in most areas but they MUST be leashed--if you do not leash, and you encounter a ranger, you will face a fine. Our house is not appropriate for weddings, large gatherings or parties. You may not bring additional guests or allow additional guests to camp on our property. You'll have access to the entire house, the sauna, deck, garden and yard during your stay! We will be staying off site during your time Up North; you'll check in contactless via lockbox. We are available via AirBnB communication or text! If we are on the property to water garden, our interactions with you will be limited; we understand how important privacy is on vacation! This house sits off of M22, and our neighbors to the North and South are wonderful. This property is on 3 acres and very private. Our favorite spots in Empire are the Village Inn (great pizza!) and Shipwreck Cafe (they bake their pretzel bread fresh daily). In Glen Arbor, you must get the fried perch at Art's Tavern. We will leave a guest book with lots of other ideas, tips and insights into the area. We love sharing this spot with others! Please note that "rural life" can bring some new experiences to those used to a city--you might hear coyotes at night, deer in the backyard, or notice our neighbors (who are acres away) using farm equipment or firearms. Leelanau County is famous for cherry production, and in the summers, sprayers will be running. These just sound like white noise and are not loud or distracting. This is a 150+ year old house that has been renovated from the studs up. As a result there are quirks to older homes and we will leave you details on these. We ask that you do not bring recreational vehicles (ATVs, mini bikes, RVs) or firearms to this property.
