Sweet Hamlet Apartment

This lovely two-story 1800s apartment located in a quiet hamlet is 5 miles from the wonderful, historic village of Chatham, NY, and halfway between Hudson and the Berkshires. Close to cultural venues and events while offering a calm setting in rural Columbia County. This renovated apartment is the original part of the house and has hard wood floors, exposed beams, wainscoting, and low ceilings. Contemporary features include wifi and a flat-screen “smart” TV with free access to Directv (all popular channels plus HBO), Netflix, Amazon Prime instant video, and multiple TV apps. Living room with dining area. Full kitchen and dishwasher. Main bedroom on ground floor with queen-sized bed. Small bedroom with twin bed on second floor with window air conditioner. Cool in summer and warm in winter with propane heater and electric heat backup. Coffee and tea provided plus other supplies in fridge. Good for couples, solo adventurers, and business travelers. We welcome infants and children ages 4 and up; not suitable for toddlers unless willing to sleep downstairs. Separate porch with separate entrance or shared front entrance, on-site parking. Easy access in winter. If you like, you can be on your own entirely during your stay. But if not, we live in the main house and are happy to answer any questions about the area and recommend restaurants and things to do. Available by text, e-mail, phone, or in person. The immediate neighborhood is very quiet (you will hear the train go by, but we like the sound). Post Office and wine shop nearby. The village of Chatham (10-minute drive) is unique with a historic Main Street full of shops and eateries, pub and microbrewery, independent bookstore, independent movie theater showing first-run and foreign films, yoga center, and signature clock tower. The week-long film festival FilmColumbia occurs in October. Five minutes away is the beautiful, peaceful Ooms Conservation area at Sutherland Pond. Other Columbia Land Conservancy areas are nearby – wonderful with trails for walking, contemplation, and scenic views. You will need a car in this country setting. Hudson with its antique stores, restaurants, and train station (Amtrak) is an easy 30-minute drive through the country. Stockbridge, Lenox, and Tanglewood are a 20-minute ride away. Just 3 minutes from the I-90–Taconic Parkway intersection and access to points west (Albany), east (Boston), south (NYC), and north (Saratoga Springs, Adirondacks).
