Our private peninsula has been a Northwoods destination since the 1950's when it operated as Mallard Point Resort. Although the resort days are over, the cabin tradition lives on here at The Point. This is one of two cabins that have been completely renovated into cozy guesthouses and stocked with everything you need for a lakeside getaway. **COVID 19 POLICIES** We are still taking reservations and following recommended cleaning guidelines. About the Property Mallard Point is still reminiscent of the resort it once was, just smaller and more peaceful. Cabin 1 is one of two guest houses for rent on this private peninsula, in addition to the owner's home. Each cabin has its own fireplace on the lake and other outdoor spaces are shared. It's a great setup for those who want a relaxing or adventurous getaway but enjoy meeting others. About the Cabin The cabin features high ceilings with large windows that face south for exceptional views of the lake and natural light all day long. A simple, open format living and dining area accommodates 4 people comfortably. The kitchen has a gas range and is stocked with all the essentials- cookwareware, dishware, coffee, soaps, towels, etc. The loft has a quality king-sized bed and the ground floor bedroom has two twin beds with linens and extra blankets included. The cabin is winterized and has a gas fireplace so you can warm your toes after skiing or curl up with a good book after a long week of work. What We Love About It We love the access to the lake, it's all around, and so easy to get out paddling, fishing, sailing, snowshoeing, or just take it in from an Adirondack chair. You can expect to see other guests or our family enjoying the beach, grilling out, or fishing on the dock. You'll also likely see otters, beavers, loons, and eagles just outside your door. Prairie Lake is quiet and has little boat traffic, lots of undeveloped shoreline, and picturesque rock walls at the southern end, perfect for paddling adventures. The water is shallow and gradual along our little sand beach for small children to splash and build sandcastles. Our location is halfway between downtown Grand Rapids and the Chippewa National Forest, it's just 10 minutes to get to XC ski trails, hiking, trails, and premier fishing lakes there.
