This historic 1800's stone estate has undergone extensive renovations in 2020 and 2021 and was offered for rental for the first time last year. Washington Irving, famous author of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow designed and built this gorgeous stone home in the 1830's. Situated on a hilltop overlooking Cayuga Lake, this estate has PRIVATE LAKE ACCESS and a DOCK. With over 12 acres of lawns and fields it is very PRIVATE WITH AMAZING VIEWS. The home has a great blend of the old and the new! Opened June 28 2021, a spectacular Wellness Center, the Spa of the Inns of Aurora has facial and body treatments as well as indoor and outdoor pools. (five minutes away!) A lavender field is available for massages as well as a hair and nail salon. Our "neighbors " - the new Quarry Ridge Winery and Heart & Hands Winery - have enjoyable wine tastings. The surrounding farmland provides magnificent sunsets and offers plentiful activities -sightseeing, waterfalls, hiking, boating, water sports and fishing. The beautiful and creative Mackenzie Childs ceramics home decor is based here (a two minute straight drive) and is open for tours, and demonstrations as well as retail shopping. Visit the Aurora Shoe Company (open Fridays), an antique store, Vintage Lighting store (unique chandeliers, lamps, etc). Take a drive to Cornell and Ithaca Commons for more shopping and dining. (30 miles away). Groceries, Pete's Treats (great ice cream place), are minutes away for your convenience. Launch your boat at the Union Springs Town Dock or the Long Point State Park (Aurora)--both minutes away. Originally named "Ingleside" (meaning fireside), this unique home is in the midst of the gorgeous Finger Lakes farmland with MAGNIFICENT VIEWS of Cayuga Lake from all bedrooms and living areas. The front of the house faces west and the SUNSETS put on an amazing display. Five spacious bedrooms have all new linens and mattresses and 3.5 baths are newly renovated. The new 2021 kitchen is well appointed with an 7 burner Hallman stove, white quartz counters and an expansive island for seating and food prep, as well as a cozy eating area next to the fireplace. The office adjacent to the kitchen, allows for private work/study. The spacious dining room boasts ample seating (table seats 10-12), oversized windows and French doors that lead out to a front stone patio. The adjoining living room has French doors which look out to a lovely rear courtyard (newly completed June 2021) for more entertaining, lounging or a special place for morning coffees or libations. An oversized bedroom off the living room has its own front entrance, with a front stone patio as well. Two staircases add interest and privacy. The second floor has four additional bedrooms and three new baths. The expansive grounds give further space for entertaining and PRIVACY. There is plenty of parking areas. This is so we may clean and set up the house for our next guests in a timely manner. -Check in time is 4 pm. You are welcome to enjoy the lakefront beginning at 2pm, however no entry to the house will be available till 4 pm. -Please be courteous and place all dishes and kitchenware in dishwasher the morning of your departure. -Please place all trash in large trash bags that are provided and left in closed containers (2) in garage. There are open barrels for bottles and cans. -FOR APPROVED NON-SHED DOGS: Please do not allow your pet on furniture. We can provide a gate to keep pup in kitchen while you are out of the house as well as a crate. Please allow only well-trained- non- chewy pups out of crate when you are not home!
