LITTLE HOUSE on the HILL - Gorge Getaway Home Base
This little house started life as a woodworking shop. When we outgrew it, we made it into a guest house. It may be imperfect, but it's perfectly adorable. We have a little peek of Mt. Hood from the yard. The territorial views are lovely. At night, you can enjoy the beauty of a Milky Way sky far from city light pollution. Come. Enjoy. Relax. MORE... SETTING Situated on five acres near the main house, in a quiet rural neighborhood, this bright, cheery space is about 10 minutes, (5.5 miles) from White Salmon s charming pubs, restaurants, shops, and grocery. Hood River is about 20 minutes away - just a short hop across the Hood River toll bridge ($2). It's a restful country retreat or a great home-base for your Gorge adventures or business travel. This is a rural property with a gravel driveway. No manicured lawns here. We are in an area of 5 - 20 acre lots. It's usually very quiet, but once in a while, you can hear children playing or the occasional radio when someone is entertaining themselves outside. The land across the street is owned by a timber company. People often hike there. Some ride horses or mountain bikes through the forest to White Salmon. A lot of folks bike the roads as well, though many don't have much of a shoulder. Access to these private forest lands is restricted during fire season. LAYOUT The house consists of two large rooms with a connecting open doorway. One side includes the living and dining areas, and kitchen with refrigerator, microwave, and electric oven and stove. The second side contains the sleeping area, bathroom (toilet, sink, shower), and closet/laundry. The sleeping area has a queen bed, small dresser, bedside stand, and curtain, which allows for bedroom privacy while maintaining bathroom access for all. The floors are laminate, ceramic, and vinyl composite tile. SLEEPING Although the space is ideal for two people sharing the queen-size bed, a second queen bed, or two single cots are available upon request. We usually put the extra bed in the dining area and adjust the position of the dining table and chairs so everything will fit. We also have a Pack 'n Play play yard with a full-size removable bassinet. The bassinet weight limit is 15 pounds; the play yard has a weight limit of 30 pounds. Please let us know what you need before arriving so we can set it up for you. NOTES Nature is all around us. You may see turkeys, quail, bunnies, deer, spiders, lizards, garden snakes, etc..It's not unusual to hear coyotes at night or doves cooing in the trees. If the sight of a daddy-long-legs fills you with fright, best not stay here. We are on well water and septic, so the water pressure may be less than what you are accustomed to, and we ask that you take some care about what you flush down the toilet. There may be morning car/truck noises when folks go to work or at night when they return home. The house heater can be a bit noisy. (We also have portable radiant heaters which are silent.) Winter access can be difficult; 4WD is advised. We can't always keep the driveway clear. Message for a driveway report if you are concerned. OWNER AVAILABILITY We live next door and are generally available if you need something, but unless you ask, we'll leave you in peace. If you want something specific, please ask - before or after your arrival. We will do our best to accommodate. We want you to have a stress-free, five-star stay.
