Havisham House - Carriage House

Where 1892 meets modern luxury in a vacation rental located in Alto Pass, Illinois. Havisham House has two homes on the property... the Carriage House and Main House. We are in the heart of the southern Illinois wine trail, and just a few miles from Bald Knob Cross and amazing hiking/biking trails. The main floor of this cozy Carriage House offers a bedroom, full bathroom, kitchen and living room. Downstairs has a larger bedroom, full bathroom and an exit to a private outside patio area. Why did we name it "Havisham House"? Have you read Great Expectations by Charles Dickens? Main character, Miss Havisham, lived in the Satis House, a ruined mansion. This property immediately reminded me of this classic novel when we found it in 2015… abandoned and heavily damaged from a severe tornado. (Please see "before" pictures at havishamhouse.com.) Even with its extensive damage, we fell in love with this property and had "great expectations" for its rescue. We think you will truly enjoy your stay as you make wonderful memories in southern Illinois. We know you will love Havisham House as much as we do.
