Bright, Charming 3-BR with Garden in Town

Staying here is designed to feel like borrowing the immaculate home of a friend who has provided pretty much every little thing you could need or want to feel at home—including a sense of safety, which means that I am only accepting guests who are vaccinated and boosted at this time. My guests have also been very obliging about observing two COVID precautions: wearing masks in the common-space front and back hallways of the house, and storing their shoes upon entering on the rack in the hallway outside the apartment. Blue Skies is named for its gracious ambiance and sky-colored ceilings throughout. The apartment, which is on the second floor, is set up to comfortably accommodate six in the three bedrooms, with a twin daybed for a seventh. Blue Skies, which has its own thermostat and air conditioning, is comprised of seven rooms: a spacious living room; an anteroom off the living room (with French doors and the daybed); a dining room; full kitchen (with fridge, oven, microwave, toaster, coffee maker, and dishwasher); three comfortable bedrooms (two with queen-size beds, one of those with featherbed; and one with a full); and a bathroom with clawfoot tub and an abundance of white towels and toiletries (including but not limited to shampoo, conditioner, toothbrushes, and Band-Aids). Blue Skies is very clean and very comfortable, and exudes the welcoming warmth of an art-filled salon. This house was built shortly after the Civil War, and the public spaces — living room, dining room and kitchen — are spacious. The cozy bedrooms are generously appointed with pillows, soft linens, blankets and cozy rugs, and all the beds are super comfortable. Union Street, and my block in particular, has the lovely settled energy of an older neighborhood. It's quiet and peaceful here, yet only a minute's walk from the middle of Warren Street, Hudson's happening main drag with its varied restaurants, wine bars, art galleries, boutiques, and all manner of fashions - antique and au courant - for home and humans. Hudson is a very small city, and you can explore all of it easily on foot. Warren Street, Hudson's main artery, is a minute's leisurely stroll from the house, and there is street parking all around. Hudson is about 120 miles from New York City, a two-hour train ride from Penn Station, and 48 miles from Albany International Airport (ALB). Although you can walk anywhere in town from the house, the closest supermarkets, movie theaters and fast food are located in strip malls 1-1/2 to 3-1/2 miles away (thus preserving Hudson's remarkable architectural continuity). There are taxis, a car rental agency, and two places to rent bicycles (one of which also rents skis and kayaks) in town. The Catskills, Frederick Church's Olana and river beaches — to name just three of the Hudson Valley's memorable offerings — are all a 10- or 15-minute drive, and more easily accessed by car. Blue Skies is smoke-free, and I am very sorry to say that I cannot accept pets. In order to change linens and keep the place bright and shiny, a weekly cleaning fee will be added to all stays of more than a week.
