The Quarry Cottage is named after a granite quarry located just behind the owners studio, you will see the large blocks of granite that were once cut and now rest on the shore. The Quarry was active in the late 1800's when much of the granite used to build New York and Boston came from Maine. The property around the quarry is available for you to explore by path, this is not a swimming quarry but it is very cool to explore and you can swim in the ocean off the rocks. You can walk to all the amenities in the village but you could also drive, parking is available. There are a lot of fun day trips you could take from Round Pond including to islands via a ferry. A day tip to Monhegan Island is really special. You can rent kayaks and explore the beautiful Islands of Muscongus Bay. If ocean kayaking is too much there are stunning lakes in Lincoln county to explore and kayak rental is available for that as well. Again, ask us if there is something you are interested in and we'll help you out.
