The Lake District National Park Sunset Beach Cabin
Enjoy an escape by the sea in this unique rough-luxe beach shack in the Lake District National Park, and rediscover the simple life on the shores of the Irish Sea. Snug interiors, crashing waves and the starriest of night skies makes this private seaside beach cabin complete with bubbly hot-tub the most inspiring of seaside retreats. Our housekeeper Nicola maintains the highest standards of cleanliness. She thoroughly cleans and disinfects between every stay. Combining varnished wooden floors with snug wraps & blankets, bleached clapboard exteriors and an indulgent off-grid charm, Lachra is the epitome of seaside getaways. This unique self-catering beach cabin, popular with couples and mini-mooners in search of a romantic retreat, or a seaside base from which to explore Wainwright's fells, is the perfect place to reconnect with the important things in life. When the sun melts into the Irish Sea in a blaze of orange glory, sip crisp white wine on the decking or in the hot tub after a good days walk, and watch sequinned skies blanket the horizon. Bedrooms and Bathroom The cosy bedroom space in the loft at Lachra boasts a double futon bed adorned with squishy cushions, thick blankets and the finest of linens to ensure a blissful night’s sleep. Downstairs is a cosy twin bedroom with wonderful views over the beach and the sea. The small separate shower-room is perfect for washing off sandy bodies after a day on the beach. Outside Perched on the edge of a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and right on the beachfront, Lachra is a mile from the small village of Silecroft where the local pub boasts log fires, a range of real ales and locally sourced food from the Lake District. The beach at Silecroft is one of the finest beaches in the UK; grab a glass of wine, submerge yourself in the hot tub and watch the surfers battle the westerlies or the horse riders as they take to the beach. Lachra's garden is large enough and safe enough for older kids to pitch a tent or two, but not so large that they can't hear you call when it's time for tea! Dogs will love the beach at low tide and are very welcome at Lachra. For Relaxation By day, there is a 13 hole golf course 5 minutes from the cabin, coastal walks, woodland rambles and mountain hikes for explorers of any ability. As night falls, lovebirds can enjoy a romantic candlelit dinner overlooking the sea, or sink into the hot tub outside to stargaze to the sound of the swell. Be soothed to sleep by the lullaby of the sea just beyond the bedroom window after an active day spent exploring this beautiful and largely undiscovered corner of the English Lake District. Lachra is located on the edge of the Lake District National Park. For breathtaking Autumn colours and mountainous views, drive to the market towns of Coniston (20 mins), Ambleside (45 mins) and Keswick (1 hour). The best steak restaurant in Cumbria is a 15 minute drive away, and the best fish and chips can be found in Haverigg, and eaten overlooking the stunning Duddon Estuary. Silecroft has a railway station. Parking for Lachra is a five minute walk along the stoned beach and up a flight of wooden steps, so not suitable for buggies or wheel chairs, or those unsteady on their feet. Practicalities There is off road parking for one car. Access is via a set of steps up from the the beach and unsuitable for wheelchair users. It also isn't suitable for toddlers or puppies. In true back-to-basics style there is no washing machine, microwave, dishwasher or internet (but there is 4G and lots of DVDs, a four ring electric hob, grill, oven and fridge). Guests are kept cosy with the electric heating.
