Casa Barra Tortuga Beautiful Beach front House
Casa Barra Tortuga is a beautiful beach front house located right on one of the most beautiful, secluded beaches near Puerto Escondido. The house is located about 5 km south of the town on a golden sand beach that extends as far as the eye can see. With virtually no commercial development on the beach, you can walk for miles and see only waves, sea turtles, birds and nature. It is close enough to town but with the privacy and tranquility required for relaxation and recharging. This spacious Villa also has direct access to a wonderful and unspoiled beach. Puerto Escondido a is a world class surfing destination so the beaches are open ocean and waves are strong. The house is in a fishermen community called “La Barra de Colotepec”, which is about 5 km south of Pto Escondido. The villa is an easy 20-minute drive from the airport. If you exit the house and walk the beach to the south at 350 meters you will find a marine turtle sanctuary where you can release young turtles to the sea. If you continue walking south another 500 meters you will arrive to the mangrove forest and the lagoon where hundreds of sea birds, other indigenous animals, and even crocodiles can be seen. If from the house you walk the beach north for 1.5 Km you will reach “La Punta de Zicatela” which is a rock outcrop that reaches into the sea where you can enjoy some small caves. Depending on the season at low tide some natural pools form where you can soak in the sun with the crabs. La Punta is a favorite of cool, low key bohemian surfers with a natural food shop, and plenty of beachfront restaurants and cafes, and it even has a great Thai restaurant with live music during the season. Location History: The town of Puerto Escondido was established in 1928 as a port for shipping coffee, although the area has been inhabited by indigenous populations for centuries. In the 1960's it was connected to other coastal towns by Highway 200. Tourists began to discover the town and surfers found its beaches. Its importance as a port diminished as coffee shipments began going by truck instead of boat. The port does continue to support commercial fishing activity Public transportation from the Main market to La Barra runs from 7 am to 8 Pm. Nevertheless we do recommend you rent a car so you can visit all the attractions the Oaxacan coast line has to offer.
