Modern, 3BR/2B house, immaculately clean, charming and comfortable (1100 SF, sleeps 6): the Barn (1200 SF, meal seating for 10, sleeps 2 on the sofa bed), and Bunk House, colorful and charming (100 SF, 2 twin beds, sleeps 2) and garage (3 bikes, tire pump, helmets and 20 pound lobster pot with propane burner, and garbage cans, gardening equipment and hose), on elevated 3 acres, rocky,wooded, blue berried property with wonderful views of Burnt Coat Harbor. The Main House and the Barn are WiFi/'High Speed Internet and Satellite TV equipped. Fine old stereo speakers stream music from the internet and pick up AM and FM over the air broadcasts. A modern, high capacity Washer/Dryer is located in the well stocked pantry. All needed pillows, linens and towels are supplied. The refrigerator was new in 2013. The electric stove is modern and works well. There is thermostat controlled electric baseboard heating for chilly nights. There is a 'medium sized' microwave in the kitchen. Sorry, no electric dishwasher yet. A short ferry ride to MDI and Acadia National Park. An easy walk (less than 1/2 mile) to Tim's Island Market and Supply (excellent meat, fish and lobster), ice creamery, fast food truck, Carrying Place sand beach, the Post Office and Town Hall. The 'Odd Fellows Hall', the town's meeting place for town breakfasts, Zumba classes, and plays, musicals and the Sweet Chariot Folk Festival, is next door. Longer walk or short drive to the island's Tea House Restaurant, library, fisherman's wharf/lobster co-op, and swimming quarry, with a glorious view of the harbor. Easy access to biking and hiking trails and nature reserve. Short drive to the ferry (about 5 minutes). An inexpensive ferry ticket will take you from Swans Island to Bass Harbor in about 30 minutes. Bring your car if you want, but you can get around MDI without it. In Bass Harbor, steps from the ferry, you board the free LL Bean MDI bus, and tour Acadia National Park, visit and shop Southwest Harbor, Northeast Harbor, Somesville, Bar Harbor, or Jordan Pond; or walk Acadia's Carriage Roads or hike Acadia's trails; go to the top of Cadillac Mountain (from which you can see Swans Island); or swim and Picnic at Echo Lake. Plan your excursion carefully and the bus will get you back in time for the late afternoon ferry. The bus is free; you can bring our bikes if you are in good shape and can manage the hilly roads on MDI. We supply information about the bus, the ferry (schedules and routes) with our 'Welcome and Information' packet which we mail to you after you have completed your reservation. Wonderful summer stock theater is available in Somesville. Classical music concerts take place in Northeast Harbor. There are wonderful museums, galleries, shops, and restaurants all over MDI and nearby towns in Hancock County. All within easy reach. We can advise about scheduling and logistics. Charter a motor launch or sail boat. Go whale watching. Explore nearby uninhabited islands. Go clamming on deserted beaches. We hope to offer a sail boat and motor boat with the property rental, soon. In the meantime local lobstermen sometimes offer rides on their lobster boats with trips to nearby Stonington, and mail boat rides to Frenchboro, on which you might see some seals, some eagles, other sea birds and rarely a whale. All the house water is from our well, tastes wonderful, is filtered and treated with UV light to kill any germs that might be in the well. State licensed lab tests done in June 2013 assured the potability of the well water, without filtration and UV treatment. Mattresses are modern, firm, and very comfortable.
