Moondance looks out over the valley with a bird's eye view of the mountains from an expansive deck. A two hour drive from DC offers a private and cozy, air-conditioned cabin, perched on top of a 5- acre lot in a private, wooded community. Day trips to small towns, festivals, and National Forests, offer an adventure with a cookout at sunset . Wrap-a-round deck has outdoor furniture and gas grill. Well equipped kitchen, wifi, bedroom, workspace, and a queen size sleep sofa. Moondance offers a quiet, comfortable setting with an expansive view of the valley and mountains below. It is both a place to relax as well as hike and explore the Shennandoah Valley. The views of the Milky Way, moon and stars at night are relaxing on a summer evening. Guests have entire cabin to themselves. Parking on a circular driveway in front of the house. There are several steps down to front door which is level with front deck. Ellen Miller is our property manager. She is very knowledgeable about the community. Moondance is close to The George Washington National Forest and The Lost River State Park, locally. Trout Pond Recreational Area, with a beach and lake for swimming is close by at the bottom of the mountain. The small town of Wardensville offers antique shops, a bookstore, and The Lost River Trading Post & Grasshopper Gallery. There is a working farm in Wardensville that offers outdoor entertainment some nights in the summer as well as a bakery and local produce. Moondance is one of several cabins located on Tom's Knob Approach which runs along the crest of the ridge providing views of the valley on both sides as well as other mountain peaks. There is a gravel road that runs the entire length of the ridge that is a good walk during the day with pretty views. You will need a car to get around Lost River. Although this area is only 2 hrs from Washington DC, the appeal is it’s remoteness, relaxation, view and potential for physical adventure. Because of that, planning food, drink and clothing is important. Festivals and events in and around The Shenandoah Valley can be accessed on the internet. Wardensville is the closest town (30 min drive) but big box stores can be accessed at Moorefield and Harrisonburg (45 min) Day trips to ride historic trains, to hike the forest, visit Dolly Sods, or hike Seneca Rocks will be a day adventure so some planning is essential. There are also local trips which can be found in the Guidebook in the cabin.
