Welcome to Heron House! Because our property is bordered by beautiful Mill Creek, this house is in close proximity to great blue heron rookeries. Nearby trees hold the twiggy nests of several pairs. Mill Creek offers you a 1.5 mile, paved, recreation trail leading to 20 miles of dog-friendly unpaved trails open to hiking, biking, and horseback riding. Adjacent to our property is Rooks Park, an eighteen-acre developed park that offers large grassy areas, picnic sites, a playground, horseshoe pit, and volleyball court. Less than 10 minutes from the park you‘ll find Bennington Lake, the only public lake in our valley. It’s stocked with rainbow trout throughout the spring months. Within the house, our themed rooms range from the main floor "Pug Room" and "Paisley Room", to the second floor "Let ‘Er Buck Room", a tribute to the Pendleton Roundup; the "Emily Dickinson Room"; and the "Rose Room". All bedrooms have queen or king beds. The house will sleep up to 10 guests. There is an en suite bathroom and half bath downstairs and three shared full bathrooms upstairs. You’ll find guest robes and slippers in every room. Our kitchen is fully appointed for meal preparation and serving in the formal dining room or more casually around the large island. Morning coffee in the sun room often provides a glimpse of local wildlife, including deer, fox, quail, and pheasant; and, of course, the tall, angular heron. Outside, the backyard patio has a natural gas BBQ grill and outdoor seating for ten guests. Local wineries can provide excellent pairings for your meals, and if you prefer takeout, a number of critically acclaimed eateries are available downtown. Check out the local weekend Farmers’ Market for fresh produce and live music.
