The Carriage House near Penland

The 'Carriage House' in downtown Bakersville is a historic building built in the early (Phone number hidden by Airbnb) s. The charm of the small-town setting, the amazing abundance of artists (the most per capita anywhere in the country), and the proximity to hiking/Appalachian Trail/streams/rafting / and numerous outdoor activities make this an amazing place to visit, vacation and live. We are located 15 min. from Penland School of Crafts and 20 min. from the top of Roan Mt. that borders with Tennessee. The 'Carriage House' space has a cozy and comfortable rural feel to it. The history and location of the building as well as the abundance of artists in the area inspired us to decorate with the works of many of the local artisans. Most all of the ceramics, paintings, furniture, and decorum are hand made while modern conveniences and appliances are integrated seamlessly to create a soothing, practical, and aesthetically pleasing experience. If you are traveling with your pet, please read our Pet Policy under "Additional rules" The entire living area is allocated for your use. The storage space beneath the cottage is locked and it's where we store lawnmowers, gardening tools,... things like that. Our goal is to allow our guests as much privacy to explore and just enjoy the surrounding areas as they wish. If they would like some interaction or assistance on a personal level, we'd be more than happy to do so as well. Our own home is only a half-mile away and our place of business (In Tandem Gallery) is within walking distance which allows us the ability to be accessible if needs or desire arise. The Carriage House is located in the middle of the little town of Bakersville (about 400 people). The perfect location if you want to enjoy nature and art. Bakersville is located just 15 min. away from Penland School of Crafts; 20 min. from the top of Roan Mt. & the Appalachian Trail & the border with Tennessee; 40 min. from Wildacres Retreat and Conference Center; and an hour away from Asheville, Boone, and Johnson City. Also, it's very close is the Toe River, Mount Mitchell, Mount Mitchell Golf Course, TRAC Art Tour, Burnsville, Spruce Pine, Arthur Morgan School, Celo Friends Meeting, and the Roan Bald. Lots of things to do like fishing, golfing, walking trails, hikes and guided nature walks, swimming, and tubing in the Toe River. It's a really small rural town that's quaint and historic; where everyone waves to each other and asks how you're doing. There is public transportation called 'Mitchell County Transportation'.
