The Banana Patch cottage, for one person only, is an open air 12 x 12 room, enclosed in screen and nestled in a grove of banana trees. Guests hear the winds, the rains dancing on the tin roof, the cascading leaves and the crickets. the cottage is surrounded by guava, avocado, mango, breadfruit and lychee trees- a tropical paradise. There is high speed wifi ($40 paid directly to us), a shared kitchen and bathroom. During this time of Covid, month long stays, with 45% discount, are encouraged. The Banana Patch cottage is for one person only, someone seeking personal quiet time, time to retreat, time to be still. It is a screened 12 x 12 cottage nestled in a grove of banana trees. Hear & feel the winds, the rain dancing on the tin roof, the cascading leaves, the crickets, the falling “torpedo” avocados and ripe mangoes, when in season. The single occupant sleeps on a bamboo frame bed. There is a comfy reading chair for enjoying the wide variety of books and magazines available, and a desk to keep a daily journal when arising early with the coming of the early morning light. The propane shower and toilet are in an adjacent building, and a shared, if there is a guest in the Mango Tree Cottage hidden next door. A kitchenette adjacent to the Banana Patch Cottage has a gas stove, small frig, pots, tea kettle and dishes Return to simple naturalness. Calm & settle the soul. During this time of Covid consciousness, and mandatory 14-day-self-quarantine in Hawaii, Akiko brings breakfast to the guests for the first 3 days, and interacts minimally. However, she is available to assist, whenever needed. Wailea is a quaint old plantation village of about 12 households. It is a very friendly and warm community where we know each other. Our families know each other. Every Tuesday, we have our community market and we gather to share,sell, and trade food; great food for our bodies and souls. We are located 15 miles from Hilo. A car is a convenience. There is our Hele On Bus service. We offer the best of "old Hawaii," - natural simplicity, caring and quiet charm. We are steeped in all that is natural -the trees and plants and shrubs, wild and lush with small winding humble pathways, - a little rain, a little wind, sometimes a lot, and we love Hawaii and are blessed to live here. We live in deep peace and gratitude.
