The town of Mathews, only 10 minutes away, offers a charming, main-street setting with local shops, dining, and community events. The island itself boasts the Gwynn's Island museum, local church services, a public boat ramp, and a waterfront restaurant (Hole in the Wall Grill). You can also hire a local captain who will pick you up from our property's dock, and take you on a sunset cruise or guided fishing trip. Contact us directly for more info. Some guests may wish to trailer their own boat, and use our dock as an overnight berth. Usage of the dock in this manner is approved on a case-by-case basis, depending on boat size and pending weather conditions. So please contact us directly for more info. The greater Mathews County area offers activities like kayak tours and rentals, public sand beaches, blueberry picking, and farm markets. Art lovers can visit the many galleries in town. And history buffs can learn even more about the area by visiting the Mathews Maritime Museum in town. We provide a Guidebook at the house, which contains more info on all of the above, & tips for how to enjoy the local area. Feel free to take a walk down the road leading to the house. You may see some neighbors along the way. Otherwise, personal vehicles are your best bet for exploring the area. There is a local cab service for prearranged rides.
