4R/2BA getaway with sweet garden yard
Quiet natural setting in great village close to NYC but with quiet and beauty all around. Perfect getaway. Great house, cute village, easy access to the city via 30 min. train. Otherwise, walk 5 minutes to hiking in the woods and winding trails. House is centrally located: 0.4 mi to our local full-service grocery store, or 0.8 mi to the Farmers’ Market. Remodeled "Cape Cod” with new sunroom addition. Well-furnished back deck & peaceful porch. Lovely garden w/ swing, fire pit, play house. Great house, cute village, easy access to the city. That's why we moved here 10 years ago and why we think this place is a real find for anyone wanting to be in a natural fresh air setting, close to NYC. Professional cleaning is a priority. Hastings-on-Hudson is a cute quiet haven with lots of history and a 30 minute express train commute to Grand Central Terminal. It’s known as one of the “Rivertowns,” four small villages along the Hudson famous for their laid-back vibe as well as their artistic and intellectual bent. You really have the best of both worlds, since the fast commute into the city (if you want it) is matched by the easy stroll into the lovely local woods or up to the parks, orchards, estates, and gardens of the lower Hudson Valley. Runners, bikers, walkers: don't miss the Old Croton Aqueduct nature trail-- miles and miles of flat pathway with magnificent Hudson River views. If you want to learn more about Hastings, look for one or more of the recent articles in the New York Times Real Estate section featuring our village as it draws a new wave of families. Our place is centrally-located in the village. We routinely walk the 0.4 miles (0.6 km) to our local full-service grocery store, or 0.8 miles (1.2 km) to the Saturday Farmers’ Market, the gorgeous library overlooking the Hudson River, the train station, and the downtown shops and restaurants. The locals celebrate and frequent the downtown, which is now operating with upgraded outdoor cafes and pubs with a wide range of cuisines. No chains here, just local businesses. We also take the five-minute stroll in the other direction, into miles of protected nature trails in the “Hillside Woods” or up to the local elementary school for the playground and fields. The house is a charming “Cape Cod,” recently remodeled, clean, and very comfortable. It's fresh, clean, light, and in great shape. We love the back deck, which is a wonderful place to grill and dine in the spring and summer. The front porch is the perfect spot for sunsets or morning reading. Living room includes two couches, a large tv, and a cozy gas stove for chilly mornings or evenings. Our new favorite spot is the sunroom addition: vaulted cedar ceiling, three walls of windows, large comfy couch, expandable dining room table, skylights. The main sounds come from birds and neighborhood play. From the back deck you'll find a spacious, secluded, and inviting yard. Situated on a hillside, the space has been cultivated into a woodsy garden and veritable adventure playground. A playhouse, hammock, and tree swing invite kids and adults alike, while hanging lights and a fire pit extend the enjoyment past dark. Front and side yards are also cultivated native-plant gardens, with seating and walking paths amid the greenery. Back inside you'll find a breakfast bar, an extendable dining room table, a comfortable living room, the sunroom, and three spacious bedrooms (two upstairs (king and twin) and one on the main floor (full)). The master has a small walk-in closet and room for two large dressers. The bedrooms have two windows each, all looking out on nature. Our neighbors on either side are above and below us and separated from us by trees, so the house feels very private. In the basement you'll find a large guest room/office with a comfortable queen bed and a desk and access to the outdoors via the private driveway. Adjoining the guest room/office is a laundry room with space for storage and a work bench. There are two full bathrooms in the house. The floors are hardwood, with the exception of the basement which got fresh carpet a few years back, and the sunroom, which has a heated ceramic tile floor. WIFI is strong and we have Sonos stereo equipment throughout the house. We love this place and hope you will too! Let us know if you have any questions!i Use whole house.
