I live in the main house and am available to guests if they have questions or want to socialize. Sometimes we rent out the main house as well when I'm away. Just north of LAX, Playa del Rey is in the heart of what is fondly referred to as Silicon Beach. It is home to a mixture of prominent and young tech companies. Where once stood the private airport of Howard Hughes, now (Hidden by Airbnb) , YouTube and Electronic Arts have put down roots. Playa has its own delightfully down-to-earth vibe, with plenty of old-school dives and restaurants to hang out in, and zero pretentious airs. You'll see planes taking off from LAX, an endless procession of sailboats coming and going from Marina del Rey and, after sunset, massive cargo ships lying at anchor. Plentiful street parking, the Marvin Braude Bike Trail, the Del Rey Lagoon Park, the Ballona Creek Wetlands Reserve and, of course, the Pacific Ocean, make Playa a great place to unwind. Every one drives in LA and it’s no exception here in Playa del Rey. That said, a car is recommended for exploring farther afield, but if you are coming here for work at any of the companies in “Silicon Beach” a carshare service like Uber or Lyft is usually pretty cost effective. We’re 10 - 15 minutes from LAX. The space does have a couple small steps, so is not currently wheelchair accessible. In the winter, there is an electric fireplace in the bedroom/living room area and radiant heat on the floor in the bathroom. We are located in a hire fire hazard zone, which means NO SMOKING anywhere on the property, including outside per Los Angeles short-term rental ordinance. That means no smoking of ANY kind. A first violation will result in your reservation being immediately cancelled without refund.
