Welcome to the Lookout in Wheeler! This lofty home has amazing views from Neahkahnie Mountain toward the mouth of Nehalem Bay, with a distant line of ocean on the horizon. Four miles to Manazanita, 6 miles to Nedonna/Rockaway, 8 miles to Short Sands Trail. You are perfectly situated in the lovely hillside town of Wheeler. Pardon our siding! We are doing repairs and replacements in between guests but this should not affect your stay in anyway. Welcome to the Lookout! Sweeping views of Nehalem Bay and State Park, Neahkahnie Mountain and the Pacific on the distant horizon greet you when you arrive. You can watch the tides come and go from your coastal retreat. This light and bright home is lofty and open so you can enjoy the views from almost every window in the house. The town of Wheeler was born in the early 1900's and still is a sweet small town today. Locals call Wheeler Pukalani, or 'hole in the sky' because it is lucky enough to sit in a coastal sun-hole. The mountains around Wheeler protect from winds and allow the sun to shine while many nearby areas are hidden in fog and mist. In addition the this fun home's quirky character the living room windows are nearly floor to ceiling. You'll feel wonderfully connected to your coastal surroundings even when lounging on the couch with a good book. Schedule your day around sunset because you won't want to miss it! The living, dining, kitchen, 1 king bedroom and the 1 full bathroom are on the main floor. Two flatscreen TVs are provided. The large 55 inch TV in the living room is ready for your own Netflix, Amazon and other accounts. Cable Tv is provided via YouTube TV. Free 300mbps wifi is also provided for those working from the coast. The kitchen is fully stocked for your gourmet cooking adventures and we supply basic oils and spices to get you started. There is a dishwasher, smooth surface stove, microwave and garbage disposal. The dining area has seating for 4 at the table and 2 at the bar. The main floor bedroom features a comfy king bed with a memory foam topper which you can remove if you like sleeping firm. We provide high thread count sheets, light weight down and down-alternative duvets with fresh duvet covers and fluffy white towels for your stay. The main floor king bedroom has a flatscreen TV and chromecast for streaming cable YouTube TV or your own apps. Upstairs is an open loft, spanning the length of the home. This is also the 2nd and 3rd sleeping areas. There is a king bed and a full futon in the loft. They are separated by a small room dividing screen to divide the space. Upstairs is a great spot for coffee and a good book! Check the closet for puzzles and games too. The loft balcony gets even more horizon and sunset view than the main floor deck. You'll have lots of sunset viewing options. For those sleeping upstairs, please note that the many windows and skylights really bring the outdoors in. If you are a light sleeper, bring your earplugs/eye pillow in case of bright nighttime rain storms, early birdies or bright sunny mornings. The backyard is grassy and level in case you want to play some yard games. There is even a bay and mountain view from the backyard. Generally, you'll be amazed at the slope of the roads in and around town in general. Wheeler has definitely been carved out of a hillside which makes for fun and interesting in-town walks. Be prepared for hills! Happily, being this high also means this you will sleep and rest outside of the tsunami zone. You are free to store your gear in the basement during your stay. The washer and dryer are also located down there. The unfinished, cement basement is accessed via an external door only. It's not accessible from inside the house. The basement is darkish and smells like a basement. It's definitely not a pleasant basement for hanging out in. The washer and dryer are brand new though and your clothes should be fine getting washed down there! Our reservation team is always available by text and phone for questions. If you need immediate assistance at the home, let us know and our local beach contact can meet you at the house in case of emergency. Otherwise our reservation management team will take care of any questions you might have. Please contact them if you have any questions at all! You will have the home to yourself during your stay. This is a loved family home and we ask you to respect the home and our neighbors during your stay. Just steps to the wonderful amenities of downtown Wheeler...wake up with a stroll to coffee and breakfast at one of the several cafes/bakeries in down. You'll also find plenty of antique shops and a couple great local restaurants. Check out the Salmonberry Saloon locally sourced eats! The town of Wheeler prides itself on being a true coastal town of residents, not just vacationers. You can walk all over town and explore this hillside town by foot easily...just be prepared for mega hills! You might leave more fit than when you arrived. A couple of blocks away from the home is the Wheeler Marina. You can rent a SUP or kayak and take off up the Nehalem river or just explore the cool saltwater estuaries of the bay. Feeling adventurous? Paddle all the way to Nehalem and tie up at the public dock and have lunch at the Pizza Garden. What a cool way to explore! Going to downtown Wheeler? Take 1st street for a lovely local town tour and arrive downtown without stepping onto Hwy 101! Going to the beach? The Manzanita beach is about 10 minutes (4 miles) up the road. Nedonna and Rockaway Beach are just about 10 minutes (6-8 miles) away. In order to get the views, we have a very steep driveway! Think SW College Drive in Portland, San Francisco's Filbert St or Queen Anne Hill in Seattle. It's a bit rough and narrow too. We walk and drive up it and back down it all the time (our sedans and minivans do just fine) but want you to be aware and prepared. You are welcome to park in the lower pull out area below the front deck, if you prefer. You can walk up the hill from there. There is also a flight of stairs to access the home from the upper parking area. The City of Wheeler zoning ordinance requires a 14-day minimum reservation. We, therefore, only allow reservations of our home in minimum 14-day blocks.
