Allergen notice: While we do not allow pets in the home, we have formerly had a cat on the furniture, and so we can not guarantee an allergen free home. Guests will have access to the entire home during their stay. Please note that this is an older home with historic door hardware, and as such bathrooms and bedrooms have interior latches and locks, but are not protected when not in use (e.g., valuables can not be secured when guests are not present, etc.). There is not a safe on the property. During your stay, feel welcome to cook, play games or do puzzles (we've stocked a few to share with you!), watch tv (Chromecast App and Netflix/Hulu account required), rest, or whatever suits your fancy. Coffee and tea are provided, along with an assortment of breakfast bars, oatmeal packets, and snacks. We are former Elkins residents who now live and teach in New York City. We keep this beautiful home for our vacations from the city but more importantly to stay connected to the community of Elkins and the wonderful people we call friends. While we don't live locally, we have a variety of others (e.g., friends, handy people, house cleaner, etc.) available to assist during your stay if there's a house concern. We have someone who mows the yard during the summer months; we'll leave a shovel for guests to use during the winter months. We will message you before you arrive within check-in and check-out information, but otherwise, we understand that you came to Elkins to relax and maybe to be outdoors; so, we won't message you a lot during your stay, unless you need us! Please do message us when you reserve to let us know what brings you to town. If you need the office futon made into a bed for your 6th guest, please also let us know when you reserve. This home is about one mile (a comfortable, mostly flat, walk) to downtown, Davis & Elkins College, El Gran Sabor (our favorite!), and TipTop Coffee. Walk just a few blocks to visit the local brewpub, Big Timber Brewing, or to attend a Friday night Elkins High School football game. Riverbend Park is an easy 1-2 mile walk. The immediate neighbors are friendly folks who spend time on their porches, but who generally keep to themselves. Occasionally, you'll hear a ruckus from folks across the road having a gathering, but that's pretty rare. Walking, biking, and driving are quite easy in Elkins. You'll find plenty of side walks, on-street parking, and bicyclers throughout the area. There's a great deal out outdoorsy enjoyment in and around Elkins. The Highlands bike trail is about a mile from the house, and is a simple ride through town to the trail head. The drive is about 45 minutes to Canaan, Timberline, or White Grass for skiing. The drive to Snowshoe for skiing is about 75 minutes. To hike Seneca Rocks and Spruce Knob, you'll drive about 45 minutes. Beautiful, artsy Davis and Thomas, and nearby stunning Blackwater Falls, are about 60 minutes drive. Check out the Elkins Randolph WV website for ideas! This is an old home, with beautiful character. Please help us maintain that beauty by removing your shoes while staying here. Allergen notice: While we do not allow pets in the home, we have formerly had a cat on the furniture, and so we can not guarantee an allergen free home.
