Leave everyday stress behind & unwind at Alma Basecamp--centered in Colorado’s Rocky Mountain playground. The cabin sits at 10,000 ft & overlooks snow-capped views with a gorgeous aspen grove in back. It's the perfect basecamp for skiing (Breck 25 min. away), hiking, biking, fishing & any off-road adventure you could ask for. After a long day in the mountains, Alma Basecamp is where friends & family can kick back by the wood stove, enjoy a home cooked meal, & take in the views from every window! We welcome you to our getaway cabin “Alma Basecamp” in the high country of Colorado. Our cabin is just far enough off the beaten path to be the escape that your family or friends desire, but close enough to Breckenridge to grab the first chair on a perfect powder day. The cabin sits on a perch, tucked in a two-acre lot, with mature aspen and evergreens surrounding the entire back of the home. The front porch overlooks Mosquito Creek, Loveland Mountain, Mt. Bross (14er), Mt. Democrat (14er), and Mt. Silverheels. A glance through the front windows may score you the opportunity of watching moose graze through the willow in the beaver ponds surrounding Mosquito Creek. Inside, you will be immersed by vintage amenities and rustic charm. The wood burning stove is the focal point amidst the massive vaulted ceilings and exposed beams. The living room offers the perfect chance to gather for board games with your friends, or to nestle into either of the full-size couches to watch a movie. High-speed internet and satellite cable allow you the recovery you need after a full day of playing hard in the mountains. The farmhouse kitchen is flanked with a wall of windows above the sink looking into your treed oasis. Butcher block countertops accent the kitchen island where memorable home cooked meals are waiting to be prepared. The pride and joy of our cabin is the antique O’Keefe & Merrit 1950s gas range and oven. Its six burners, two ovens, two warming trays, and broiler is one of an estimated 300 to still be in existence. It can definitely handle all your cooking needs for a large group or romantic dinner. Speaking of dining, our farmhouse table can comfortably seat 10. The size alone invites you and your loved ones to come and enjoy the well-deserved home cooked meal after a day on the slopes or miles on the trail. Please don’t feel the need to play hard at all times during your stay! A morning cup of coffee or evening glass of wine may be just the ticket while relaxing in one of the two reading nooks, which provide views and comfort for a low key morning or afternoon. Artists have been inspired by the views found in each of these nooks. The 1st floor master bedroom contains a king-sized bed and a reading chair both positioned to take advantage of the serene backwoods or the morning light on Mt. Bross. The ensuite bathroom has a vintage claw foot tub and separate shower to rejuvenate those sore muscles or to thaw out after a cold day. Both guest rooms are also on the first floor and contain queen-sized beds. These rooms have been decorated with their own themes, bringing mountain charm to the forefront of your stay. The guest bath also features a claw foot tub and shower. The large porcelain sink and décor will make you second guess the era we are in. This elegant bathroom is just steps from each guest room. “Alma Basecamp” also has a bunk room for the entire crew--a great place to stash the kids or exile the snorer in your group. The bunk room has two double beds and three twin beds with plenty of space for all guests to spread out. Winter access into the home is through the attached garage. Plow service and county-maintained roads allow for year-round access. Upon booking, we will provide further details for check-in and check-out. The whole cabin is yours during your stay. We live off-site, but are available. Check out this video to see why we love where our cabin is located: (Website hidden by Airbnb) “Alma Basecamp” is located just off of Mosquito Pass Road (County Road 12). Three miles further up the pass, the road turns into a 4WD only inside the Pike National Forest. This pass is famous among 4WD and ATV enthusiasts for being the highest drivable pass in the US. The top of the pass sits at an elevation of 13,186 ft. and is quite the adventure by foot and mountain bike as well. The cabin is located right in the middle of the best South Park has to offer: -Walking distance to hiking/biking -25 minutes from Breckenridge -30 minutes from gold medal class fishing -45 miles from the best white water rafting in the West (Class I-V) -50 minutes from hot springs We are happy to provide you with our favorites of all the above activities, as well as restaurant recommendations (and we have quite a few!) upon booking. Alma Basecamp is a beautiful 2 hour 10 minute drive from Denver International Airport (115 miles) on HWY 285 heading southwest from town. The 2 hour drive from Colorado Springs (100 miles) is equally as pretty, heading west on HWY 24. There is not a local transportation option in Alma (3.5 miles) or Fairplay (6.5 miles), so a personal vehicle is recommended. Uber/Lyft may be available in the area at times, but it's not a guarantee. The cabin is 2 miles off of the paved Hwy 9 that connects the towns of Fairplay and Alma. The charming ski town of Breckenridge is only 25 minutes away door to door. For winter months, 4-wheel drive is recommended, but not mandatory to access the cabin. We have a plow service established, however weather in the mountains is unpredictable and timing for clearing the drive-way could differ. We want you to have the best experience possible, so please read through this section. On the whole, we do not have cell phone service at the cabin. There is occasionally a bar or two that comes through, but please do not depend on it. We do, however, have wifi, which may help. Although we do have satellite cable, there is only one TV in the living room (with a DVD player). We hope you'll spend much of your time enjoying our incredible landscape, but popcorn and a movie is also an option! Our cabin sits at a higher elevation than Breckenridge and the surrounding towns--10,500 feet. When you go from low altitudes to high altitudes, your body needs to adjust to the change in oxygen levels. Before coming out, please do your research on altitude sickness--you may even want to consider spending a night in Denver (5,280 feet) to help adjust. Making sure you are hydrated before and during your stay is also key, especially if you plan to be active.
