Enjoy a quiet mountain top getaway with gorgeous views of sunsets and surrounding mountains. Unwind fishing in the large stocked pond and finish the day with a campfire. Take in the arts in Bakersville, the Penland School of Arts and Spruce Pine! The property consists of 10 acres with the apartment sitting on the top of the mountain! It is surrounded by mountains and has breathtaking views at sunrise and sunset. The 1200 square ft. open concept apartment is filled with large windows and provides gorgeous views of the surrounding vistas. There is one private bedroom with a double bed and own private bath. There is also 2nd full bath. Full kitchen has large fridge, stove/oven, microwave, dishwasher and coffee pot and comes stocked with all the cooking utensils you will need. There is an island with stools and a good size dining table in the breakfast nook. There are three high quality and very comfortable fold out double Futon’s in large open area. A large pool table and darts allow for lots of family entertainment. Enjoy a large campfire while watching glorious sunsets on the mountain top or have a small campfire in a more intimate setting at the goldfish pond. Once kids are tucked in, relax with a glass of wine on the large deck and take in the views of the brilliant night stars. Mornings are best spent waking up with coffee on the third level private crows nest watching the morning fog lift off the mountains. At the base of the mountain there is a beautiful large pond stocked with bass, bluegill, catfish and even some three and a half foot carp! Enjoy fishing or just feeding the fish - they put on quite a show! All the supplies you need for fishing are provided. There are multiple places along the pond to sit as well as a beautiful large gazebo that overlooks the pond. A multi-use court is a great place to play basketball or bad-mitten with the kids. Getting hot? Enjoy a swim in the pond - there is a beach area and dock as well as tubes and kayaks to float in the pond or have a water fight! Halfway up the mountain are three small spring fed ponds that contain hundreds of goldfish - it is a great place to sit in quiet reflection or enjoy watching the kids feed the fish!! Back at the top of the mountain enjoy a friendly game of horse-shoes. Western North Carolina is HEAVEN – there is so much to do nearby! If you love the outdoors, there are ample opportunities for hiking, horseback riding, rock climbing, gaming clay and caving – beautiful Roan Mountain and the Appalachian Trail are within 15 minutes. Scenic Linville Falls is just 10 minutes away. If you love water, the North Toe River is 5 minutes away and you can enjoy scenic tubing, canoeing, kayaking and fishing. Awesome white water rafting is only a 40 minute drive. There are a lot of local friendly outfitters and the prices can’t be beat! There is a Deer Rescue where your family can interact and feed orphaned fawn and adult deer. This region boasts the natural resource of semi-precious stones – enjoy panning for gems at the local Gem Mountain or take a tour of the Brushy Creek Mine. In winter the ski resorts of Sugar Mountain and Beech Mountain are only 30 miles away. Local eateries, including the acclaimed restaurant Knife & Fork, antique stores and galleries line the streets in quaint Bakersville and Spruce Pine, just 10 minutes away. Asheville another is a great place for shopping or enjoying the Biltmore Estate – about an hour away. The region boasts a vibrant and large art community. You can enjoy classes and tours at The Penland School of Arts. Most local artists have studios that are open to the public, and they are happy to share their talents with you. If they aren’t home, mosy studio are still “open” and often just have a basket out where you “self-pay” for items you want. This is a very trusting and kind-hearted community! In the towns of Bakersville and Spruce Pine, there are numerous galleries that show off the gorgeous local textiles, pottery, sculptures, paintings, and beautiful wood working. If you have a hankering to learn to pottery or wood turning, the Proprietor John is happy to give you a class in his private studio. Guests will have complete and private access to the apartment. Only adults are allowed on the 3rd story crow’s nest. Proprietor John is happy to show you around his private wood working and pottery studios. Proprietor's log house is across the property on the mountain top and is within view of the apartment. Washer and Dryer are within the Proprietors home but you are welcome to use them. I would love to show you around the property and you can have as much or as little interaction with me as you would like. I can offer recommendations on local attractions, dining, hiking etc. If you prefer your privacy, that works too! This is a beautiful rural area - your closest neighbors are the deer! I have 2 very friendly dogs, Charlie and Rose, who love kids!! Your dogs are welcome and I have crates and even a kennel that can be set up if you need it. Warning: Your dogs won’t want to leave!
