Millbrook Country Dream! Tennis. Swim. Play. Picnic.
Through the white gates, up the quarter mile driveway flanked by magnolia trees you’ll find our secluded country paradise on seven grand acres. On our property the land is the star. The Great Lawn stretches the length of a football field and then some. Nature surrounds. You’re treated to beautiful views across the valley from the top of the property. A cloudless night reveals a breath-taking expanse of star-filled sky. Just across the road is a working farm where you’ll see cows forever grazing and corn that – by August – is truly as high as an elephant’s eye. Featured in ‘Romantic Homes’ and ‘Modern Bride’ magazines, there’s so much to do at our Maison de Fun - as it was dubbed once by guests (see their present of napkins) - that many weekend visitors never leave the property. Play tennis from dawn to dusk if you like, punctuated by jumps in the pool. Play games on the Great Lawn. There’s enough room to set up a soccer field (yes, we have the cones) and still have plenty of room to play lawn games and lay out blankets for a picnic. Or just relax on the front porch swing overlooking the grounds. Tennis racquets and balls, lawn games, frisbees and footballs, pool floats, are ready for your use. This area is a destination for biking, so bring a bike and ride the rolling hills for hours and return for a dive in the pool. The exterior of our house is not going to win a beauty contest, but the inside is charming, sun-drenched, ultra-comfortable and appointed with whimsical antiques. Downstairs, the vaulted double-story living room is divided from the dining room by a double-sided Jerusalem limestone fireplace that stretches two stories. There are so many great places to relax! Catch a nap on a chaise in the glass solarium, on a lounger out by the pool, or read a book on the front porch swing that overlooks the grounds. Make a cocktail at the gentlemen’s wet bar, take a glass of wine onto the deck or sit on the Great Lawn and watch the su set. (see our photos for some of the world’s most gorgeous sunsets.) And where’s the kitchen? Ours is in a very special place – on the second floor! The raised kitchen table affords beautiful views of nature’s daily show on the north portion of the property. Depending on the time of year, you might see wild turkey, egrets, pheasants. Just off the kitchen is our flower-filled deck with a dining table that sits 6-8, complete with new gas BBQ. Keep your eye out for hummingbirds joining you for lunch as they sip nectar from the hibiscus. The 400 square foot master bedroom suite is awash with sunshine from dawn to dusk. From the windows, you can see across the farms to the hills of the valley. The master bath walls are made of butterscotch onyx tile which rise from the soaking tub. The Yellow bedroom features a queen bed and the Purple bedroom a single. Both share a just-renovated modern bathroom with shower. Located approx 1 1/2 hours from NYC and just 20 minutes off the Taconic Parkway, our Millbrook home is just a five minute drive to town for antiquing or grabbing breakfast at the diner, or lunch or dinner at restaurants ranging from traditional French to Italian wood-burning oven pizzas. The Hudson Valley has long been the breadbasket of the East Coast. In fact, many of vendors at NYC’s famed Union Square Market are farmers and purveyors from the valley, so the restaurants here are truly farm-to-table. Farm stands abound and the Millbrook winery hosts dinners and concerts. We’re 22 minutes from Vassar College's famed Powerhouse Theatre where "Hamilton" premiered for $29. Forty minutes to the Duchess County Fairgrounds for Antique and Craft shows and the fabled Dutchess County Fair celebrating its 175th year; and less than two hours to Tanglewood, Williamstown Theater, Mass MOCA and The Clark museum.
