Situated on a tree-lined street just off the Potomac River, our home is nestled among an eclectic group of brick townhomes. The traditional red brick exterior is a drastic contrast to the grey and white contemporary interior. Our house was even a finalist on the HGTV Ultimate House Hunt 2017 “Living Large in Small Spaces” category! Experience it for yourself! The main floor of our home features a beautifully designed living room with high ceilings and a stunning starburst chandelier, a wood-burning fireplace, upscale seating, a gallery wall of photos from Old Town locations, and access to the private backyard patio with grill and fire pit. The spacious kitchen overlooks the living room and offers ample countertop space and a large table perfect for eating together or playing card games/completing puzzles. The kitchen is outfitted with all amenities including French door refrigerator, wet bar, dishwasher and microwave and double ovens. Oder in from one of the many local restaurants or cook your own favorite recipe! The newly-renovated lower level is a tribute to military aviation. The main attraction is an authentic “ready room” chair used by pilots while briefing before and after flights. The shelves and walls display highlights from 22 years of military service and the map above the bar is an aviation map of Reagan National airport. The coffee table rises to be used as a desk, the sliding doors conceal a full size washer and dryer, and there is a stylish half bath. The 2 large bedrooms and 2 full baths are located on the upper level. One bedroom is an en suite with a king bed, a deep chair, and a view to the backyard. The other bedroom has a queen bed, a unique headboard, a hidden desk in one of the closets and is decorated with a whimsical royal family! Both beds invite you to a good night sleep in soft sheets and alternative down duvets. Other things to note We are so happy to share our home with you! This has been our primary residence for the last few years, not one of many rental properties a typical management company might have. Due to recent circumstances, we find ourselves in a position to share our home with you and hope you enjoy the care and attention to detail we have put into making your stay pleasant. Please enjoy our home and outdoor space, but keep it respectful and low-key (read: no parties). Old Town has great pubs and restaurants to enjoy, so go out for rowdy fun and come back to chill. Win-win! We welcome up to 2 well-behaved dogs, so please reach out with additional information about your fur kiddos when you book with us. Once approved, there is a fee of $50/pup. We appreciate you reading through these additional notes and are here to answer any questions you may have. Our goal is to provide you with the most incredible stay in Old Town and we know that begins with upfront communication. We hope you have a wonderful and memorable stay at the Contemporary Princess!” Getting Around Although we are in a very walkable area, there are multiple options for other forms of transportation. There is a bus stop one block up at the corner of Fairfax and Princess. Buses travel to both the King Street and Braddock Street Metro stops. You can also walk a few blocks to along Street and take the free Trolley all the way to King Street metro. Both scooters and bikes can be rented within a few blocks using apps such as Bird, Lyft, Capital Bike Share, and PedGo electric bikes (which also offers tours). Water travel is also very accessible with the Potomac Water Taxi, which has routes to The Wharf in DC, Georgetown, and National Harbor. You can also catch a water ride to watch a Nationals baseball game right from the Old Town harbor. The neighborhood This area of Old Town was known as West Point in the early 1700’s, and was the first important European settlement along the waterfront and predates the city of Alexandria. Throughout the 1700-1800s, it was variously a tobacco storage area, landing point for slave ships, and a seasonal community of wharf laborers. By the turn of the century, the area as the site of a coal and lumber yard and a primarily industrial area until the 1960s when the plant moved. These townhouses were built in the 1970s after the area was rezoned.
