The University of California campus is within easy walking distance as is downtown theaters, restaurants, museums. Bicycles are available to rent within one block of La Casa. Brown shingled homes are valued in the community due to the turn of the last century architects who built "craftman or craftwoman" homes here. Julia Morgan has many crafts woman buildings in the community including the gorgeous Berkeley City Club. The house is quiet, non-smoking, and drug free. . The guest room is light filled, colorful with folk art and textiles. The east facing room contains a comfortable queen pillow top mattress as well as a floor futon for an extra person. The room also contains a desk, dresser, book case, TV, DVD and WiFi as well as a large closet with extra linens. The guest bedroom contains darkening shades and curtains. There is a private bathroom downstairs for guest use. Lush gardens, deck and front porch surround the house. Street parking is zoned for 2 hours from 10-6 on weekdays. A day parking permit is available for $5. The folk art which adorns the house reflects the extensive travels of the owner. The kitchen may be used for light vegetarian cooking and limited space will be made available in the refrigerator and cupboard. The piano in the dining room may be used at arranged times. Berkeley has high quality tap water. It will not be necessary to use bottled water during your stay. There is filtered water and ice in the door of the refrigerator. Diversity is welcome. The room and downstairs bathroom are exclusively for the guest's use. At night you are welcome to use the upstairs toilet. The deck and garden are available for meditation, reading, weeding, and seasonal harvesting. The kitchen may be used for light vegetarian meal preparation. Tea and coffee are always available. A continental breakfast will be provided on the first morning if the timing is convenient so that the owner may answer your questions and provide directions. Having lived in the community for over 40 years, she is familiar with the many cultural activities, transportation options, and restaurants. The room contains maps and guide books for the Bay Area and California as well as restaurant recommendations. This is a quiet, friendly, and walkable neighborhood within close proximity to the best market in Berkeley, many cafes/restaurants, shops and movie theaters. Berkeley's downtown is within a 20 minute walk and has small theaters and music venues in addition to world renowned restaurants. The University of California campus is within walking distance. The Host is available to provide you with information about the community and its resources. BART (subway) is 5 blocks from the home. San Francisco's downtown is a 20 minute ride . Point Reyes is an hour's drive as are the Napa and Sonoma wineries. Lake Tahoe, Yosemite, Reno, Mendocino are between 3 and 5 hours from Berkeley. There is a vast network of county parks with hiking, boating, and swimming as well as ranger led activities. Buses are within three blocks. If you will be driving to the property, please let me know so that I may provide you with specific directions since there are traffic diversions at some of the streets in proximity to my home. We, in Berkeley, love the slower traffic, but it does provide challenges for newcomers. Lyft and Uber are available and community bicycles have convenient rental locations throughout the City, including within one block of La Casa. This is a vegetarian, smoke and drug free, quiet home. My grand children visit my home for a couple of daytime hours weekly and occasional overnights. There is two hour zoned parking on the street Monday through Friday. parking permits are available for weekday parking for a $5.00 fee but are not required after 6:00 pm and on the weekend. The Host is licensed for short term rental with the City of Berkeley, City of Berkeley Zoning Certificate ZCSTR(PHONE NUMBER HIDDEN). Airbnb will collect and remit the short term occupancy to the City of Berkeley.
